    I would say live in Manhattan first. As a native Manhattanite who has lived in Brooklyn for the last 8 years, you won't truly appreciate BK until you spend time living in 'the city'

    for your price range, you should be able to find decent amount of options. When you start looking, be ready to put down money on a place that day. I've seen some great apartments, only to wait an hour and then lose it. Real estate here is no joke and great apartments get got with the quickness.

    By the way, i want to give props to the first 'moving to NY' post I have read where the poster has a realistic assessment of rental prices, unlike the people who think they can find a nice loft studio for $800/mo where they can live across the hall from Rachel and Monica.
