  I always thought the whole patent thing is ridiculous because it stops progress,
  just look at all those patent trolls that never produce anything but had an idea and were smart enough to grab the patent before someone else who actually did go to the end of it,

  as Elon Musk put it,

  "We have essentially no patents in SpaceX. Our primary long-term competition is in China," said Musk in the interview. "If we published patents, it would be farcical, because the Chinese would just use them as a recipe book."

  want to make something, make sure to work with people you trust and make them sign heavy non disclosure agreement,
