I have used both and I love the XL1. I bought one for myself. I like the completely manual controls of the camera: shutter, aperature, lenses, audio, etc. I bought a dual-XLR adapter so i can use pro mics. The color rendition of the XL1 is nicer, in my opinion, than the pd150 or even the vx2000.. the sonys tend to accentuate the blue spectrum, which is more difficult to get rid of in post. Again, this is my opinion.
Also, frame mode on the xl1 is worth the price. I know others have it too, but it is perfect here.
