There are a bunch of states that have "Stand Your Ground" laws and others that have "Duty to Retreat" laws. Stand your ground means you don't have to run away, and you can utilize lethal force in some places without consequence. Duty to retreat means the opposite, and that if you happen to kill or hurt somebody, you have to prove you had no other choice.
