Niko - Do you know how condescending it sounds to say you've had great experiences when you visited Cuba?

Cuba is not a zoo so that you can 'ooh' and 'awe' of how happy the people are with so little. And how it so delightful to see a population without the corporate nauseam we are burdened with here in west.

These are real people with zero liberties. And deserve a lot more than condescending romantic remarks of it's population.

Communism is a failure. Fidel new it and oppressed it's own people to keep a failed ideology alive.

They'd be way better off without it. Even they are starting to recognize it. Give these people a little more respect than your patronizing remarks.

    • fair enough but you're just as condescending claiming to know what's better for them as well. That they'd be happier with our way of life._niko
    • They might not have liberties but at least they're smart enough to know it. We on the other hand are dumb enough to believe we're free._niko
    • They're living 1984, we're living Brave New World._niko
    • Plus my intention isn't to compare the standard of living with the west as a whole but other free democratic latin american countries. apples to apples._niko
    • just as corrupt, just as poor, just as little opportunities and just as few liberties._niko
    • Yes and communism is a huge failure. Except in a little place called china, the soon to be world's most powerful economy._niko
    • maybe freedom means killing each other for black friday deals or maybe this: https://www.youtube.…_niko
    • are these people not oppressed? are they not being kept in darkness for monetary and political gain? Feel sorry for them, they're in your own back yard._niko
    • ask yourself one question - do you think if would have elected capitalism by now if they had been given an option?hotroddy
    • Who are we (or castro) to decide what the people want?hotroddy
    • and what brought China out of poverty was capitalism not communism.hotroddy
    • China was smart enough to recognize that central planning doesn't work.yuekit
    • As Deng Xiaoping say, it doesn't matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches the mouse.yuekit
    • I think neither extreme works well, and that they would vote for some form of socialist system._niko
    • niko- capitalism is all about individual choice. Under capitalism If I want to play golf - I can play golf.hotroddy
    • Under communism - they won't let me bc it's a bourgeois sport and the land should be better utilized. Under islam it goes against the teachings of allah.hotroddy
    • Don't mean to sound like I'm defending Castro, I think he's shit, I think all governments are shit, let's not hold one on a higher pedestal than others._niko
    • capitalism = freedom and choice.hotroddy
    • I can give a million examples. golf is just onehotroddy
    • yeah but if I'm black they might not let me play golf either. Or if i'm not rich enough or have the right friends._niko
    • I agree 50 years ago. But today is different. Tiger Woods, Colin Kapernich. Capitalism does not identify with race. Only money.hotroddy
    • Communism is very devisive- it identifies with race and class strugglehotroddy
    • Communism according to Karl Max was some kind of utopian world where we had evolved past capitalism to have total abundance.yuekit
    • right, but just like communism not living up to its promise neither has capitalism. No race or other issues in the American Utopia?_niko
    • correct. but which has proven to be more effective in reducing poverty?hotroddy
    • not only reducing poverty but creating wealth.hotroddy
    • creating wealth for who? there are billions of people all over the "free" world way, way poorer than Cubans._niko
    • way, way unhealthier, and way way more uneducated._niko
    • cuba is a resource rich country. should be way more wealthier than it is.hotroddy
