    mitsu...good luck with the move.
the apt rates you have are more for manhattan, while outside in the other buroughs yo ucan find much larger apts with very easy commutes to anywhere in the city. you also get muc hlarger spaces for the price...consider moving to queens and brooklyn as they are the closest to manhattan. if going for apts outside manhattan get a broker...find an area you like and hit it with a broker doing all the werk...usually the fee is nothing or just firsty month while a broker in manhattan takes 5% of yearly rent...that can be $5k and up plus first and last month and security...looking at close to $10k just for a move in to a manhattan apt...now then you have movers and all...a car is really the most unrealistic material item any new yorker can own...dont do it!!! everything is an easy trip on the subway away or bus or even rent a car...like cindsoo says the price of parking in the city is more than food...so be aware and be very picky!!!

    good luck!
