I think its the fault of 'Design Schools"...all they teach now is how to use the equipment and fail to equip students with the ability to deal with the world they want to work in. Most young designers are in way over their heads, unable to create ideas with a concept, let alone a great solution. This ties in with the idea someone said earlier about the angst of been left behind due to at best average work. Resentment is created with the bursting of the "blind ambition bubble" that is nurtured in school....

I'm negative from lack of booty. It's just that simple. Sadly, one hand washes the other on that one.

The simple clean graphics thing is just a phase. Graphics get clean, get dirty, and so forth - just like haircuts. A 60 year old designer told me that a long time ago.

i'm still in school, and the majority of designers are negative as shiat!
though when i took an internship, my co-workers were pretty upbeat people.
who knows! i think people who are insecure with themselves are the negative ones—assholes.

Msg boards are therapy for the mind and soul.
A good rant relieves you from stress so fuck it I'll be dead negative if I have too.
Oh and what community are y'all talking about?
Behind every design portal is some kind of money making involved. Nobody is doing this shit for the love of it.

Interesting that sex has cropped up so many times in this thread. Since when has lack of sex impared the creative process? Angst is creative fuel !
Negativity towards others is bad, I say treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Thats unless you like having your knob cheese grated.
I get the feeling some designers are so bored with what they are doing that they find that a dose of negativity can spice up their lives.
Designers who are less challenged in their job/position have the need to fill their natural human stress quoter and so they use negativity, it also acts as a protection against inferiority complex and low self esteem.
Am I talking from experience? Yes.
I got 2 kids now and that has put my life into perspective, so I dont spend my working life moaning and bitching anymore I just get on with it, and I got a better job thats more challenging but pays less.
One thing I will say though, when I see really good work I get a little envious, is that a negative thing? Do we all feel that pang?
