Hey folks, as a brand to wear, what reputation does abercrombie & fitch have?
I have seen more and more people in London wearing their stuff when I go back, but my American friends in the office in Tokyo say its a "run of the mill" redneck clothing outfit, less "hip" than gap.
What says you people????

There is an Ambercrombie in every mall in North America.
sometimes two.

I guess that's a bad thing then...

white teens - white young adults mainly.

or posh twats with chino's who wear their sweaters over the shoulders

They have also earned a poor reputation for racially discriminitory products and employment practices.

Abercrombie is aimed at the 16 - 2o somethings...very sporty..jock-like wear..and I love it. I'm pretty sick of seeing people wear them in the UK though...there is a reason they don't have a store here! It's so that I can wear the damn stuff and not see some chump wearing the same thing - but badly! ha ha

it has mixed reactions here.
backn in the late 90s it was THEE things to wear...
now days its seen as FRAT boy clothing. Lots of highschoolers still sport it.. and lots of college
But overall most people have something abercrombie such as they would have a piece of GAP.. but it used to be people would wear Abercrombie from head to toe....
they have a cool look.. the preppy grunge mix or something..
but ya... younger crowed now days but still can be sported in moderation over here

Aren't they kinda cool over here for not sporty jock-like blokes?

I see.
I think its supposed to be "Cool" in the uk at the moment (not that I'd know) but I guess it would be since they don't have stores there, yet. Personally I like their stuff, I've ordered things from the site and they deliver to Japan really fast and they fit well.

I just like the name.

I just like that you can't get it in the UK easily - I never wear it in the states....if people started wearing it here all the time I would stop....

qburt hit the nail on the head... wearing A&F basically says you're a frat boy wannabe that listents to DMB
*shivers*
(granted, this isn't true in all cases)
some of their stuff isn't too bad, but i can't stand wearing something with a big brand name embroidered across my chest. that was important back in middle and highschool days if and when you were struggling to hold your place on the popularity totem pole.
and another thing, they are way overpriced!

mindless white-hats (fraternity and sorority based) college and high school students who don't have the courage to lead or be creative. Self obsessed followers and social climbers

Abercrombie's clothing, along with other stores like American Eagle, some things at the Gap, and Old Navy, is a uniform for those unable to be fashionable on their own. It's the look of the young adult who wants to fit in and wants to look the part.
Although, you can find good stuff there sometimes. They have good cargo pants, and when winter rolls around I'm sure they'll have some really cool sweaters.
I'm more into Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole and generally wherever I can find cool casual stuff, Urban Outfitters, and we have an H&M now in Chicago as well. Some cool stuff there and cheap as well.

When things come pre ripped, and middle to upper class 15-24 clean cut white boys wear it, it looks absurd. Don't be ashamed. Each store has okay stuff, but it is always too expensive for me. (I also still have a G3)
