"Oh my god. How did he die? Please don't say drugs."
there seem to be conflicting reports, some say he did it in the recording studio, but more trustworthy sources say he was found dead in his appartment. strange.

Why am I not seeing anything about this in the news? Links please. I'm stunned.

another selfish, sad, pale white man albeit talented but definately not down with the cause

Seems like a curse of talented individuals to suffer alone.

probably the most tragic event since Jeff Buckley died...
I will miss them both dearly.

rock stars dying never bothered me before now. i guess smith's music struck a deeper nerve in me than i have ever appreciated before. it's truly, truly a shame.

peteski, between the bars is epic, my favorite song.
everyone needs to run and pick up his latest 7", there were only 5000 copies made, i'm guessing the remaining copies are going to fly now:

Very sad. I saw him twice in Dallas when I was in college. Can't count the number of times I went to sleep listening to Roman Candle, I've got some memories of that attached to a previous relationship I was in.
Waltz #1 is one of my favorite songs, with that deep bass drum.
It's really sad when people can't handle the world, especially when it's because of drugs. Just wish everone could figure their lives out when they get tough for whatever reason.

his songs mean so much more now...they've always been amazing, it's sad that i'm feeling them more now that he's passed.
damnit.

i'm really glad this thread was started too... my albums of his have been collecting dust (mainly i think because i'm not feeling too down and out), but sadly and ironically, after hearing this last night i've been feeling pretty down about it... many a night was spent in the past, trying to go to sleep to figure 8 or roman candle or XO, lamenting about a screwed up relationship.. man, i'll miss the man.

Extremely sad! I never cared about an artists passing before, but...
I went ot his concert at the Wiltern 3 years ago, and it was absolutely amazing... Grandaddy warmed up, so both those in one night made it the most memorable show.
