Just as a little side-note, clarification, etc, 'Passengers' in the 80's was NOT okay.
It’s taken me this long to even remember that song, and when I did, I cried tears of blood and near blew out an O ring.
A new low.
;-°
- Elaborate, please.NotByHand
- Song by Elton John which Horp (hopefully in jest) referred to as “OK”.MrOneHundred
- I'll take a listen.NotByHand
- You’ll remember with sadness and rage.MrOneHundred
- _salisae_0
- You lost me at “diabetes friendly”.MrOneHundred
- Just kidding.
1 is great
3 is a real good startMrOneHundred - I know you hate visual reference, but are you familiar with the work of Louise Fili?MrOneHundred
- 2. The break-up of the circular shape bothers me, and there are probably better typefaces than this one.MrOneHundred
- i love her work!_salisae_
- Can give us a little more info in regards to the company? Your creative brief?NotByHand
- any font suggestions, mr100? what is it about this one you don't like?_salisae_
- too authentic, as silly as that might sound. I’ve worn-out the font selection part of my brain...MrOneHundred
- ...so I can’t offer an alternative at this time. I’ll give it some thought.MrOneHundred
- MrOneHundred0
What the fuck is he wearing in this thing?
(embedding disabled by request. I can understand why.
- Oh, I remember that song... it's annoying.
Never been a big Elton John fan...NotByHand - ... but this kind of shit is certainly not the peak of his material (imo).NotByHand
- I always liked the 'Candle in the wind' (Norma Jean) song though.NotByHand
- Anything else off 2V40 except this.MrOneHundred

STARRSWEETS desserts are gentle for people with celiac, I. B. and gluten sensitivities. We use a combination of ‘gluten free flours’ (white rice, brown rice, quinoa, amaranth, almond meal, garbanzo & fava bean and others) and XYLITOL & AGAVE, the natural sweetener that Dr. Oz (Oprah) recommends. XYLITOL has a low glycemic index, fewer calories than sugar and doesn't spike insulin levels – so they're diabetic friendly, too.
- she's putting in so much great stuff as well as removing the diabetic toxic factors. very unique._salisae_
- and they don't taste like cardboard – so much info to get across._salisae_
- That's awesome. My wife has celiac's and she longs for stuff like cupcakes and suchlocustsloth

With this type of product/company, word of mouth will be a more important selling tool than any branding. It’s good to go for the retro look, as it suggests a time before processed foods/chemical additives. Just make the logo simple and memorable – like the name and PR will have to do the rest.
- ^ See? No logo could do that.MrOneHundred

^ Thanks for the more in depth info about the company, Shari. In my opinion, what your logo really needs to communicate/accomplish is the element of 'health/natural' (which is clearly the unique and separating thing for them within the 'baking goods space'), without sacrifising the feel of sweets/authentic bakery - as it may otherwise provide that 'tofu-diet-probably-tastes-cardb... perception.
-
I don't think you've communicated strongly enough in any of your current logos, the 'unique-ness' of this company.
Also, your logos feel very 'cute-sy', feminine, and with a clear old-fashioned touch. Is this the 'vibe' of the company and how the perceive themselves?- *the=theyNotByHand
- i agree about the non-seriousness of it–the vintagy look is what she wants._salisae_
- I think you’re on a real winner here. If you can just reinforce the need for a TOTAL communications approach...MrOneHundred
- ...I see a good future for this company.MrOneHundred
- Alright, cool about the 'vintage look' then. I just wonder if the 'good for you' part could be clearerNotByHand
- i will put some effort getting that across–if all else fails it could go in the strapline_salisae_
- i keep seeing wheat–difficult to add a fava bean to a cupcake logo and not weird everyone out._salisae_
- _salisae_0
thank you guys–taking it down now for privacy sake. nice to get some outside perspective. cheers!

Also, should 'Starr' and 'Sweets' have equal weight in the mark? (or is this up to you?)
I'd be careful to run to words to tightly together (as in your 3rd version), that could read like "Starrs Weets".- excellent point_salisae_
- the space between looks much nicer as well :)_salisae_
- I know I sound very boring/theoretical... so I forget to say that I like what you've done...NotByHand
- ... I think you're nailing that 'nostalgic handmade classy' look really well.NotByHand
- i've been practicing so i appreciate your saying so :)_salisae_

i am absoulutely the last person you should trust on this stuff as it is not really what i know how to do, but i like number 1 out of the 3. Number 3 reminds me too much of Starbucks, although i like the cupcake, it makes it enticing.
Number 2 i like the font but because it is so front and center, it brings attention to the unconcventioonal spelling of "Starr" (which, i know, is probably a last name or what have you and can't or wouldn't want to be changed) i am distracted.
i like how Number one is scalable and self contained; it can exist on it's own without the rest of the package and be memorable
i happened to mosey into my kitchen in the middle of this post and looked at the gluten free brands that we have.
For two (Mi-Del and Cherrybrook Kitchens) their brnad name was presented in a way that, if apart from the rest of the packaging would be unremarkable, so having a "logo" logo sets you apart from the get-go.
One other (Pamela's) did have it's brand name contained in an oval, but otherwise was equally unremarkable.
The last (Bob's Red Mill) is indicative of a lot of others i see in that they go old-timey, but do it in a very stodgy complicated way.All in all, any of these would be better than the competition i've set eyes on, but the arcing of the name and the way it looks like the head of a prize ribbon makes number 1 the winner for me.
Your reporter for the Unwashed Masses, signing off
- wonderful ground research, sir!_salisae_
- i'll look those brands up. glad you are liking the looks :)_salisae_
