so, just had a nice dinner with Crouwel in Utrecht in the spirit of our monthly get-together..
He had the steak and I, the chicken. I think we can all see who wears the pants in this relationship...
We had a nice chat about all of you. Since neither one of us has much else in our lives. Even chatted with para during the middle of dinner...
The good thing is that I know I hit rock bottom a long time ago, so I've accepted the fact that my life has 4 columns and one of them is entirely filled with advertising, bad typefaces and random names to drop...

greyhood, only today did I realize what you were talking about as I read a review of a new Scott Walker album I hadn't heard about. I can only say his album of 1995 was unspeakably weird, so I can barely imagine what another ten years has done to his demented mind. I know what it's done to mine!

Somehow i just had this weird lucid moment where the utter amazement that is the internet set in. I somehow know that a cop in Edinburgh, Scotland sat at a traffic light this morning eating, which apparently is illegal there and would give you three points on your license.
It's the minutiae of daily life that illuminates the greater truths of the whole.

rand, i have not heard his older stuff but the new album is extremely demented and bizarre. i think maybe he saw something deeply disturbing as a small boy, perhaps his grandfather's weiner or something?

there are actually two songs on Tilt that are somewhat listenable, even moving: Farmer in the City and The Patriot. Back in the sixties, Scott Walker was a teen idol in England, performing first with the Walker Borthers and then as a solo act, a MOR crooner in the vein of Jack Jones, albeit with unusual lyrics. His weird period started with this:

I've had both the highest and lowest points of my life today, it's interesting when you see them converge over a coffee and a cigarette...

it would be criminal for you to leave it at that...
