in that case:
have just come back from a party where I was the life and soul. Witticisms flowed from my lips. Everyone laughed and admired me—but, I left, yes, that dash should be as long as the radii of the earth's orbit ——— and wanted to shoot myself (I A 161).

"One is everlastingly comparing oneself with another, with what one is, with what one should be, with someone who is more fortunate. This comparison really kills. Comparison is degrading, it perverts one's outlook. And on comparison one is brought up. All our education is based on it and so is our culture. So there is everlasting struggle to be something other than what one is. The understanding of what one is uncovers creativeness, but comparison breeds competitiveness, ruthlessness, ambition, which we think brings about progress. Progress has only led so far to more ruthless wars and misery than the world has ever known. To bring up children without comparison is true education."

It is like a finger pointing toward the moon.
Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

just got back from a couple days out of town, let some friends shoot some scenes for a short film they are making in our apartment.
it's rather surreal, just about everything in our place has been moved around, some things but an inch, some things across the room. it's like some merry pranksters came to give you a new perspective.

That shifted apartment must have been uncanny. Measure the shadows on the floor, brother. Someone could make a film about the perspective shift of objects in which the psychological condition is shown to be exterior rather than Joycean and Woolfian. Would it work?
