wrote to Alan furst asking him why Cafe heininger was in every book of his:" Does it still exist in Bastille? Did you have
a wager with the owner one drunken night there exclaiming "And, you
don't think I can write? That I'm not a writer! I'll write you in every
book I write, salope!" or maybe they were kind to you in some
unfathomable way in which you have repaid with each telling of the
bullet hole in the mirror?"he rep0lied:
Thanks for writing, don't know (computer change) if I answered but, in case
I didn't, the Heininger (Bofinger) is still there, but I went recently and
it's a tourist
trap. Alas.I liked your fantasy about the owner, wish life were like that.
All best,
Alan Furst

Hi Jon.
Thanks for the follow-up. Here are my latest thoughts.
1. The more I think about it, the more I really like the image of an hourglass/woman/coat of arms and I want to stick with it. That being said, I'm trying to get at an image that reflects me. In the last go around, I gave you feedback that the image was too bulbous and I see these two new images have more detailed lines. I think your initial ideas of making more bold images is better but it looks like you've thinned out the hourglass itself which I prefer. So my latest favorite image would be the first of the new images, but I would prefer removing the very thin detailed lines on each side. That being said, I'm still not loving the image and here's another way to convey what might not be sitting right. I generally don't like curvy lines as much b/c it feels too contemporary for me. I think the straight and angular lines are more consistent with the lawyer image too. That being said, part of what I try to do professionally is soften the hard edge of lawyers and so I'd like the logo to represent a combination of soft and hard - the balance I'm trying to convey. I recently did a renovation and the kitchen designer drew arches and corbels, etc. throughout the kitchen and I took all of the arches out. Instead, I had an island with straight but substantial columns with a lot of molding detail and ceiling and base moldings that were oversized and ornate but with classic straight and angled lines. So, maybe the hourglass image would work better for me if it the outside lines were more straight and classic, leaving the round and curviness more to the middle shapes. That may provide better "balance" for me without hopefully jeopardizing the hourglass image.
2. On the two middle shapes, I have two thoughts. First, what do you think of having the bottom one be more like a bell curve shape and the top be the same bell curve inverted. This may satisfy more of my need for symmetry. Second, you mentioned below that the partial shape at the top in combination with the full shape at the bottom helped visually convey the idea of sand running down (which I like). How about trying it with the partial top shape looking more like a wave (rather than a half inverted circle) and the bottom shape being more like a bell curve.
3. I generally like the green/brown combination of colors but I'd like the brown color to be a little softer and warmer. For example, I like the color of black coffee with whole milk or half and half in it.

Hi Rand.
Here are my latest thoughts on your follow-up.
1. I think we should actually go with the original concept which included the billy goat eating the rusty metal can with the half naked woman, holding a leash around the goat.
2. Instead of bell curve I am thinking of a pyramid, with an eye ball kind of freemason style. The eye ball will be glowing of course.
3. Personally I like pink.

Hi rand
Here are my late thoughts on your follow-up follow-up.
1. the hourglass/woman/coat of arms and I want to stick with it. It means so much to me. What a complex metaphor. The nobility of billable hours while fucking you! That being said, I'm still not loving the image and here's another way to convey what might not be sitting right. Sky cushion that!
2.On the two middle shapes, I have two thoughts.
3. I'd like the brown bunny to be a little softer and warmer. Can you tell Vinny Gallo that? How about trying it with the partial top shape looking more like a wave (rather than a half inverted circle) and the bottom shape being more like a bell curve.
