"This doesn't mean that ambition is a mistake; it is just that there is no magic to advancement per se. The status and the money go up, but that's it. And then, beset by affluence and by introspection we start to demand that our work has a larger meaning.
This almost always ends badly: meaning is a bit like happiness - the more you go out looking for it the less you find."

Wouldn't it be so wonderful
If everything were meaningless.
But everything is so meaningful,
And most everything turns to shit.
Rejoice.

looking over these invoices, I am filled with disgust at the memories they provoke. tiny increments of chaotic shit work for chaotic shit clients

"Existential psychotherapy is partly based on the existential belief that human beings are alone in the world. This aloneness leads to feelings of meaninglessness which can be overcome only by creating one's own values and meanings.
The psychotherapist helps his or her patients/clients along this path: to discover why the patient/client is overburdened by the anxieties of aloneness and meaninglessness, to find new and better ways to manage these anxieties, to make new and healthy choices, and to emerge from therapy as a free and sound human being."

I should be sitting in the sun, sipping tea and reading. it's only ten feet away

It's so hot outside. I'm drained. This weekend has been boring. I want to go to work tomorrow.

let's be honest. even though you are sitting there, trying to work -- you are really surfing qbn. thus prolonging the miseries of life. the sun will set soon but the invoices will stay. come back in an hour. i will still be here -- meaningless and empty.

one of the most interesting moments on nt happened on november 3rd, 2004. someone started a closet republcans thread where all of them could finally admit their true allegiance without being ashamed or being bullied by cunts like myself.
i thoroughly enjoyed that thread.

"A man who for years had thought he had reached the absolute limit of all possible suffering now found that suffering had no limits, and that he could suffer still more, and more intensely."

"Woe to him, when the day of his dreams finally came, found it to be so different from all that he had longed for!"
"We can discover this meaning in life in three different ways: (1) by creating a work or doing a deed; (2) by experiencing a something or encountering someone; and (3) by the attitude we take toward unavoidable suffering."

After searching and searching for a way to watch "Afterworld" on my own time, I decided that I would just download the torrent. I tried iTunes, which denied me, possibly because the show only works on iTunes in Australia? I tried nearly every site located here: http://www.afterworld.spti.com/ including the Canadian one, and each one has a set time for each episode. It's the future! I want to be able to watch the show whenever I am free. So yeah, I'm downloading it now. I tried.
