anyone ride a fixed for the commute, fun, etc?
what do you ride? what'd you build it out of?
- tny0
you can build it from any bike with horizontal dropouts, doesn't have to be a track frame
i'm riding a cushy austro daimler these days, nice realxed geometry, 'retro' stylings
- MLPROJECT0
yeah, built mine up from a 70s nishiki... surly hubs, campy cranks, mavics + NO BRAKES.
- Mimio0
Don't shift, same thing.
retro-grouches annoy me.
- MLPROJECT0
its not the same thing... you can coast on a normal bike. fixed gear = pedals moving all the time.
- mrdobolina0
you guys might appreciate this. I almost won one last weekend.
- Mimio0
Not all of them dood.
- tparsons0
Here ya go if you want a custom built for you. Ti or Steel
Mine should be done soon. And yes it will be a daily commute bike to and from the office. I can't wait.
- MLPROJECT0
mrdobalina.. that's awesome. i might have to pick one up or make one.
... then its not a fixed gear. if you can coast, its not "fixed"
- MLPROJECT0
those frames look pretty nice... what's the price range? $2k for a frame like seven?
- tny0
nice mrdobolina, i gota a crashed headtube that i might do that with
- tparsons0
It can range from $750 - $1200 and that includes the custom paint.
- MLPROJECT0
that's super steep. especially considering i only paid $500 for my car.
my roommate just got a KHS and had it custom painted... the paint alone was about $80.
- MLPROJECT0
i met some lady from seven at the cooper temple clause show at sxsw... she wouldn't give me a free bike though
- tparsons0
I'm sorry.... I sure it's a nice ride.
- MLPROJECT0
body and interior are A+... i'm rebuilding the top end right now.

80s Gitane with reynolds tubing, cincelli pista drop bars and no fucking brakes. campy hi flange hub on the front and a surly on the back. vitorria tires always.
- Peter2130
ride for fun and commute. used to be a messenger.
- MLPROJECT0
what are the vitorria tires? i need to buy new ones and need something that's gonna stay pumped and won't go flat easy
- tny0
conti's & rim strips
