I think was I was trying to say is that if you like a better, then that means that for you it IS better, in the sense that it appeals to your intelligence, emotions and aesthetics-- all things that will make it memorable

that is why i think this site is so great. what if i designed a logo like that and peoplepc would launch here in the netherlands.. that'd be quite annoying.
there's always people from different corners of the globe having 'seen' some logo before..
then there's also the institutions that register trademarks and check the logo's on similarities (what tools do they use for that?) but we don't always have the budget to deal with such institutions..

Rand, yes i follow you.. i thought about that a lot when i saw logo's that were considerably offensive to my 'intellect' or emotional intelligence.... i did not have that feeling with example c though. it's bold simplicity somehow touched me by the aesthetic and effective quality coming from it.

I'm just a design student but here's what i think. I like both a and c. But. C is too people PCish. Too overused. Too obvious. People wanna be suprised when they see a "secret" in a logo. If you make C that obvious... you might as well draw a circle with a smiley face in it right next to the logo text. But. If you wanna catch their attention, you sneak it in there. But still make it easy to find if you take a second to look. Here's what I suggest. Go with A, but take the corners of the mouth and flatten them. this will make them more consistent with the letter e and people will probably be able to recognize it as smile a little bit sooner. I think it is a little bit too subtle as it is right now. Also I might play with the thing on top of the circle in the g. It kinda looks like an eye... a rather friendly one. You might wanna consider the possibilties with that... although you may have already noticed that.
Thanks

a good logo does not need PVN critique. ok, kill me for this one.
- a_iver0
I'm sorry what's PVN?
- vburo0
..and any logo deserves a crit.

I dont understand your logic "Witt". a critique is part of the process of creation.
By presenting it to other designers they might see things or reccomend things I might not have seen or thought of and considering this is about the only place I ever have contact with other designers it seems like a perfect place for a critique.
