talent..inborn..god
- kelpie0
ok ok - I'll leave now, I didn't mean to bring up the Allmighty...
- Kuz0
it got in because YOU postulated an almost intrinsic idea of Talent that shapes and moves an individuals output. That is what cavepeople did with the God of the sea, the god of the sky, the god of the moon, the god of luck, the god of war, the god of talent etc...

Talent means nothing if you don't show anyone. You can be the hardest working most talented indindvidual and if you're too scared to show your work then, nothing will happen.
Also, I work with some hacks who have no talent at all and they've "survived" in this industry.
- Mimio0
Kuz..you mean by saying this?
"Talent finds a way to see it, internalize it, and communicate it."
I meant that's what people do with the talent they've developed. I think you took it and ran with it in the wrong direction.

so what is talent?
is it a gift? is it the same as being "gifted"?
is being gifted the same as being "blessed"?
it just seems so elusive to me. i almost think it is a term developed for people that 'do' by people that dont 'do'.
- Kuz0
No Mimio, you said you can work hard, be dedicated, and committed and still SUCK.
Thereby implying talent is not something you develop. Your next statement seemed to imply something intrinsic (if it cannot be developed through commitment and dedication post-priori)
again, see you're personifyiung talent as a thing itself. Something that exists a priori. Even if it has been "developed".
I and mogwai, on the other hand, are deconstructing the whole term talent.
THough, to be fair, you did go back on what you said in ur other posts.
- rabattski0
interesting, does talent needs to be recognized in order to excist? unless you go around and saying to yourself that you're so goddamn talented i'd say it's a valid point.

dont you hate when you work really hard on a painting/drawing/des ign/poster, etc. and someone says "oh you're so talented, i wish i could do that."?
dont you feel it discredits all you've sacrificed for your art, all the hours you've worked, etc.
i think we are all stars. we're all special, some turn away from their gifts, or dont put the time in, and then are quick to sput off "you're so talented".
this is just my opinion.

good point rabatskii.
talent just a word people say when someone does something they can't comprehend?
is what mogwai was saying
- kelpie0
how far would you deconstruct it Kuz, can it be broken down as far as something physical, something about the way your sense of sight interfaces with the way your brain works?
Don't jump on me, I'm just interested to see if your definaition is aywhere near how I feel on it. Do you think anyone in the world could work hard, be taught by the right people and paint a masterpiece for example? :)
- todelete__20
some of you are really pressing the issue quite hard.
- nick0
i also think its a question of passion more than a question of "natural ability"
- Mimio0
No Kuz,
I'm saying talent is a different ability from motivation and dedication.
- rabattski0
mogwai is right. i think what people mistake for talent is the ability of actually translate and/or project ideas, visions and thoughts which are in your head onto another medium.
- ThreeSevenFive0
lara,
I see what you mean, I think there are the same # of "talented" designers only recently has there been a huge spike in personal sites to make them visible to everyone.
- kelpie0
ok, are we talking about talent as in the "no basis in the physical world at all" sort of way, the way some people talk about faireys? ;)
I think your borne with a pre-disposition to be able to do this sort of shit. There, that's all. :)
- nick0
"I think your borne with a pre-disposition to be able to do this sort of shit. There, that's all. :)"
but if you don't give a shit about it then it doesn't matter, right?
- rabattski0
hahaha nick, yeah indeed, in that case it doesn't mean shit yeah :)
