He is pretty cocky - I was trying to shoot him at the Mark Echo show last week here in Toronto and his fuckin lame ass body guard was acting like he was protecting the president and there wasen't even anyone around.
But he still rocks it - even if I didn't get a decent shot of him back stage. : \

What's always interesting about hip hop is how blinged out and filthy rich rappers are almost instantly, while the average rock musician at the same level isn't nearly as lucky as a rapper. Tehy are more at the mercy of record label execs., and making pennies on the dollar.
Look at a band like The Killers. Their album sold pretty well, they're well dressed guys and all, but you frequently hear Brandon Flowers say in magazine articles "We're not rich like people expect us to be." He says he still drives the same beat up old Honda when he's home and hasn't indulged himself in much because, again, they don't have the money they think they do.
So what's the deal then with rappers and instant wealth?

peopel go to rap shows

rap sells better. cause it's better music over all. :)

jsut becuase u seem thm blinged oujt on tv is quite the opposite for a lot of rappers. its jsutfor show. but some are actrually rich becuse they started from the bottom and made their own recording studios in their houses/apt. and build a following so they dont have as much money to payback to recording companies and keep more of the profit.;

The Killers would be like the equivilent to someone like a Jean Grae or Talib Kwelli, not someone like Kanye. Most of the talent in hip hop is in the underground and these people have been in the industry for like 10 years trying to make a go of it on their own terms, just like many good indie rock bands...

k77, neps a good friend of mine and i met todd thru association and we've gotten drunk at weddings together. how do u know them? neps knows me as shokes, he can tell u the deal.
mg33 you get rid of the killers and i'l get rid of kanye west cmon now...the killers aren't exactly the most original thing themselves...there are countless dope innovative indie groups that deserve more bigups than the killers, why are the killers more popular than them and why are the killers being played on top 40 radio so i can listen to former milfs (actually now they're gilfs...ewww) singing "cause im mrrrrr briiiightside". if i were u i'd be upset why sonic youth aren't a household name with the kids today...if i could represent them as as hip hop equivelant it would be like gangstarr, in terms of being consistent
anyhow, i'm a person that likes mainstream and indie sheit. i think where hip hop is fucking up today is in the early 90s, some of the best hip hop was commercial, yet all those groups tried to be better than the other by being more original /different than the others. and they didnt have 20 phucking gueststars and producers on one album.
but whatever, id rather focus on what's good than what i dont like, since there's so much dopeness in every genre...except gino sheit...stuff that the "black italiano" character (prince paul fan's know the deal) would go ape shit over. peace.

As for Kanye being cocky, dude can be the biggest asshole on the planet for all I care, I listen to his songs, not hang out with him on the weekend.
Most famous actors/musicians/entertainers would probably disappoint you if you met them anyway, it doesn't matter. You dig their shit or you don't.

i saw the mtv interview last night and i couldn believe his attitude...
for a moment i thought i was watching some old snl gig...

I agree with skelly.
Like celebrities, even top designers intend to be that way so they kept ignoring/annoying people/fans.
I personally like Kanye West's music (not him) cause he raps/writes about the reality, especially the first album. It's always the thang with recording artist, they make great music on first album and screw up the 2nd album :P. I feel the 2nd album is getting too commercialized. But no doubt that he's better producing songs, like for John Legend or Common.
I still like NAS dude.. slammin'
That's what I feel. No hatin' aite..

this album is dope... no if and's or but's...
he really took it to the next level with this one

a-train, you sure you're listening to the right album? we're talking about Late Registration. It's shit.
