For decades, sexism in higher education has been blamed for blocking women from landing academic positions in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.
But a new study by Cornell psychologists suggests that era has ended, finding in experiments with professors from 371 colleges and universities across the United States that science and engineering faculty preferred women two-to-one over identically qualified male candidates for assistant professor positions.
...Despite these successes, Williams and Ceci acknowledge that women face other barriers to entry during adolescence and young adulthood, in graduate school and later in their careers as academic scientists, particularly when balancing motherhood and careers. ...

April 14 is feminists’ misconceived Equal Pay Day.
That’s the day of the year, they say, when all women’s wages, allegedly only 78% of all men’s, “catch up” to what men have earned the year before. The fairy tale is that women have to work those extra months to get their fair share.
Feminists want Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, introduced in this Congress on March 25 by Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Connecticut Rep. Rosa DeLauro, both Democrats. The bill, which would insert government even further into firms’ compensation decisions, did not even pass the 111th Democratic Congress in 2009-2010, even though President Obama would have signed it into law
- will they pass a "all dates and wedding rings are 50/50" ?formed

but G, feminism is all about equality and acceptance,
but don't you dare saying anything that is contrary to our believe or we will ruin your life, another well respected scientist (nobel prize winner non the less) bites the dust, keep on not seeing the elephant in the room,
this is similar to donglegate, some people just can't accept other's point of view..
comment below: http://news.yahoo.com/nobel-priz…
...Hunt's fall followed a speech Tuesday at the World Conference of Science Journalists in South Korea in which he said that girls cause trouble in labs because "you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry."...
The comments caused an instant Twitter storm that quickly led to Hunt, 72, leaving his posts even as he apologized. He has said he had been trying to make a joke, but nevertheless stood by his comment that love affairs in the lab are disruptive to science.
--- --- ---
- This is sickening. It's making me cry and fall in love with him. Where is the acceptance here i wonder?!Ianbolton
- point of view?Fax_Benson
- agree that UCL overreacted and took the easy way out. Still pretty depressing comments if you're a female scientist (I would imagine).Fax_Benson
- this is about social-media-fuelled knee jerk reactionsim, which isn't exclusively a feminism problem.Fax_Benson
- fax, the people that started the campaign to oust him were feminist/SJWs, this isn't the first and won't be the last, remember mozilla debacle, donglegate, georgesIII
- rosetta, etc, etc, if I do not agree with someone, should I mount an internet army to destroy your life? but you are right, it's not only a fem thing, but howgeorgesIII
- many other's life do they have to destroy before everyone says ok, this is becoming too much like an extremist and detrimental movement to men but esp women?georgesIII
- I do feel social justice is needed. but unfortunately too many dumb people would like to give it a shot as well. clouding the issue. witch hunt. watch peoplepango

Our culture of shaming everyone who makes a public mistake is a serious problem that we need get past as a global society. Shaming clouds the issues and belittles the efforts of causes such as feminism, and it creates an "us vs them" mentality that is not productive.
For example, the reason this Tim Hunt scientist resigns is because of public shaming and ridicule, not because of feminism. Sure, it is feminists doing a lot of the shaming, but feminism itself is not the CAUSE of the shaming. If shaming was coming ONLY from feminists, then we could make that argument. But it's not. We see shaming all over the the internet for every issue (e.g. race, sexism, religion, etc). Find any controversial issue and you can find people shaming others over it.
The problem is this: now people like Georges can say 'Look, feminism causes scientists to quit, therefore feminism is bad!' which simply isn't true. Many feminists would argue that the man shouldn't be shamed (but you won't hear those voices, because they are drowned out by the shame people screaming.)
This one particular example has created a "feminism vs science" war. The two things have nothing to do with each other.
Let's also not forget that we had an OLD MAN say one thing that was very sexist. WHAT A SHOCKER. AN OLD MAN IS SEXIST! OH MY GOD! NOW I'VE SEEN EVERYTHING! STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND WATCH THIS VIDEO AND SHARE IT BECAUSE YOU WON'T BELIEVE YOUR EYES.
Tim Hunt is 72. Find any group of white men over 70 and you'll find that they're basically all full of outdated ideas. They'll be a bunch of sexist, racist, homophobes, probably. They're from a different time. This doesn't excuse their behaviour, but maybe we can all calm down about something that isn't really a problem. Tim Hunt at 72 is not the spokesperson for men, nor professors, nor scientists, nor anybody. Just one sexist old man who has probably had tenure for 30 years and nobody ever corrects him. He makes a bad joke on TV and the world falls apart.
My point is this: if we want to grow as a global community and make great things and all that crap, we need to stop shaming everyone. We could cut Tim Hunt some slack. All he really needs is to be explained why he's wrong in a calm way. And if he won't back down, then maybe he can't be a professor anymore. No big deal, we all move on. And we could also take it easy on some of these young feminists who hold up stupid signs. Sure, they might have some dumb ideas on their signs, but a lot of them are teenagers or early 20s. I know I had some pretty stupid views on the world at that age.
These shame wars that cloud the issue also create a situation where people are on twitter threatening to kill and maim and rape a woman who spoke out against sexism in the video game industry or movie industry or basically wherever. Like, take it easy, you fucking psychos. You are proving why we need feminism. Trust me, if anyone of us got 500 messages on the internet from strangers publicly threatening to kill you and saying they know where you live, you'd feel a tiny bit worried going out of your house at night.
Then these psychos say they have freedom of speech and should be allowed to say whatever they want. So, the woman writes a blog article about equality/sexism, and you threaten to kill her for it. And you say that feminists are the problem? Wake up. It's everybody.
And, before you start posting a bunch of jpgs of those times when feminists posted on tumblr threatening to cut someones dick off or whatever, please keep in mind that I'm saying that BOTH SIDES need to chill the fuck out.

tl/dr.
girls have always been using social media to whore for attention. the only difference is now they can pretend its it's some kind of social justice awareness campaign while they prance around in their underwear. has nothing to do with feminism, just attention seeking teeny boppers
