"what is the solution? to bomb civilians in lebanon?"
Why did you choose to phrase that question from a side?
I noticed you didn't say...
"what is the solution? to use civilians as human shields in lebanon?"
Just wanted to show you that you have chosen a side. I am not sure if you know that.

Israel has an army, Hezbollah is a militia that uses people as human shields. They should stop shooting rockets into Israel, for sure. They are to blame for civilians being killed in Lebanon. This problem will not end in my lifetime.

and honestly, religion is ignorant.
- CarlClay0
agreed.

...if you outwardly admit to not having a solution you simply cannot justify criticizing those who try and solve the problem.
CarlClay
(Aug 15 06, 16:32)yes, you can.
- CarlClay0
Ok skelly. Justify it.
- mrdobolina0
biggest way to justify it is: "I'm not a world leader", and have no power.
- CarlClay0
you have a lot of power. you have a voice. cop out.
- mrdobolina0
there is no solution, remember?
- skelly0
anyone has every right to disagree with a "solution" if they think it's not working or beneficial for anyone. just because you don't have the magical answer doesn't mean you just sit with your mouth shut if you think it's wrong.
- CarlClay0
I understand what you mean skelly but if I were to be a part of a company meeting and bring to problems to the table without solutions I would be fired.
mrdobolina I know you think there are no solutions but I think that is like giving up and I would feel hopeless with that mind set. I prefer to stretch out different avenues like a game of chess. This causes this causes this causes etc.

Another thought is that the cold war felt helpless as well but we got through it. Don't give up. Please don't give up. There are lives at stake.

pavlovs_dog,
you'd be serious too, if you lived in Israel with your pregnant wife, your son and had a house full of refugees from the northern part of your country and two people you knew and cared about just died.
Guess it's easy to take these things lightly from afar.

The real issue here is semantics... It's not really what anyone party does - cause both sides do the same shit - what really matters is what it's called. Hezbollah calls themselves freedom fighters & they have a right to struggle against their oppressor at any cost... etc etc... but to the Israeli's their terrorists, because Israel is the target of thier struggle. On the other hand Israel calls it's war a war against terror, and for freedom because they also have the right to defend themselves, but, of course to the other side their baby killers & bloodthirsty animals.
There will NEVER EVER be peace untill either side stops the stupid name-calling (if I hear someone say "terrorist" one more time my head is gunna explode). As long as we keep calling them "terrorists" we dehuminize them, which conveniently gives us license to kill them with impunity - the same license that they afford themselves while thinking of us.
The solution is to acknowledge their agenda as ligitimate if we have any hope of them acknowledging our own agenda. Once both sides acknowledge each other then a compromise can be reached. Our present policy of "we are righteous and anyone who disagrees is evil" might have worked 50 years ago, but not today - it's only hurting us...
And all you crazy right wing nuts who claim to love this country so much are doing so much damage - you don't realize it now, but you will later.
That's the real sad part.and that's my 2c.

The disconnect here is that we are so egocentric and materialistic that we believe all human beings somehow must want the same things as we do: a job, a house, a decent and peaceful life. Those who defy this logic must be crazy. We believe they want to slaughter us because we refuse to "address their grievances". As soon as we change our policies their anger will disapate and we can get back to our quiet lives.
On one level, this view optimistally presumes there is a finite number of "grievances" to be addressed that will assuage those who would kill us. The only way to discover whether this avenue is the one to take is to go down it and see where it takes you. But beware. History shows it is a very dangerous road to travel.
On another level, and this is where rationalism fails and one is forced to deal with the metaphysical dilemma that what you are dealing with cannot be placated with material concessions but is, in fact, a manifestation of fanatism; an irrationality. A totalitarian ideology that demands complete obedience not only materially, but spiritually as well.
If this is the case, then we must have the courage to look evil in the face and deal with accordingly while not losing our soul in the process.

cactus. I haven't read the last 100 or so points but can you validate and put in context some of the interesting things you are suggesting (in relation to physical relations and politics)
i.e. the metaphysical dilemma, the manifestation of fanatism.
without using academic jargon.
