I'm somehow scaling up to be an amateur photographer, I have a Canon 300d, with the 18-55mm lens.
I would like to get either a wide angle lens or a tele-zoom.
I shoot mainly in the dark, and usually with a tripod, I was looking to get other brands other than canon in order to get a better price, like I said I'm very new to this and I would like to hear suggestions..
Budget = hopefully under $200
dont mind second hand.anyone?
- lvl_130
hmm...$200 is really not a lot and as they say you get what you pay for...
i was actually looking at this really shitty fish eye lens that fits the 20d on ebay just to mess around with:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-Wide-A…my friend picked one up and saids it's actually not bad (but considering it's $30 not that bad could mean the pics look better than shooring through tinfoil haha!)

thanks for the imput 13, I dont want a toy attachment, I want a consumer lens that I can use, I know 200 is not a lot but that is why I asked for alternate brands, maybe tokina or sigma I dont know, also second hand is an option.
anyone else?

hehe yeah i hear you. i've got a tamron that i shoot with daily that i really like (couldn't afford the canon comparable because it is insanely priced!) but here is what i got http://www.dpreview.com/news/050…

ahhhh funny.
I just bought a Canon XTi to fit the lens (EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM) that DELL accidentally sent me for free!
very nice and pick up stuff well even in the slightest of light

if you do a lot of shooting at night, i might hold out for a lens with IS. the reviews on IS seem to be pretty good. definitely more expensive though...

(Dec 27 06, 11:29)thanks mang, I'm kinda looking to get it in the next 2 weeks, and my budget stays the same, so if it's coming in the next 2 weeks and its under 200 I would like to take a look at it.

that tamron looks nice 13, is the autofocus too slow? how much did you paid for it?
- Meeklo0
370.. a bit over.. nevermind
- lvl_130
yeah it's about twice what you want to pay...but you couild maybe get lucky and find it used. i just did a quick search on ebay and there wasn't anything worth looking at.
i would say for the price it is very solid. pretty quick, and is very versatile. i'll do a bit more checking if i get a hot minute.

$350 range, but I'd say if you got it used you could get it down to like $250 to 275

if you're starting to get into photing more seriously, i recommend saving your $ and investing in a good lens. the keyword here is invest. the lens does play into image quality. so save your $200 and wait if you have to, look into spending about $500-$1000 on a 'good' lens, even by other manufacturers.
