if you're starting to get into photing more seriously, i recommend saving your $ and investing in a good lens. the keyword here is invest. the lens does play into image quality. so save your $200 and wait if you have to, look into spending about $500-$1000 on a 'good' lens, even by other manufacturers.

(Dec 27 06, 15:13)thanks for the imput mitee, but like I said, I'm JUST getting into photography, I'm afraid to even call myself an amateur photographer yet, that is why I don't want to spend much on it.
I completly agree with you, if I was goin to get into serious photography, I would probably get rid of my consumer 300d and get a mamiya and maybe a few storbe, trust me, its not the case..
I think I'm going to go with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product…
I guess because of my camera amplification chip I would have to get something extremely wide in order to get the curved style photo, and that means 10-15mm at least, wich will cost over $500 so I'm going to get a tele for now.

every manufacturer makes shit and great stuff so it's really about the name brand but about the price. ANything below $200 lens wise is definatly not PRO (unless you are talking primes and stuff) still that alone shouldn't deter you. What you are looking at is the low f-stop as you said you shoot a lot at night. Me too so all my lenses can open to f2-2.8 so tons of light gets in. Most of the lenses mentioned are f-4 (or similar) which means that you need 2x as much light as lens with f2 stop.
Here is a nice fast lens:

hey pr2 I can tell you know your stuff, the lens you show me, its very similar to what I already have (18-55) I was hoping to get something different, plus the one I have is canon and pretty good!
thanks!

but you are right, I should get f2, from what I been looking faster lenses are more expensive, I been doing alright with mine so I figured it was ok.. do you have any pictures shot at night that you took with an f2 lens?
thanks mang!

everythin here:
http://photographs.patrykrebisz.…is shot with f2.8 lens ISO of 1600 and shutter at about 1/30 -- so i'm pushing the camera to the limits.

18-55 EF-S isn't considered a very good lens, although it is usable.
Of cheap zooms, the Tamron 70-300 LD is quite good. Mind that most universal zooms, ie. 28-200's are shitty - you just can't have it all. It's always a range/quality/aperture tradeoff game.
If you decide on a Sigma 70-300, APO version is reportedly better (sharper) than regular DG.Here's a nice prime lens you might look into in some future: http://www.fredmiranda.com/revie…
If I were a Canon user, I'd be looking for this one: http://www.fredmiranda.com/revie…
or at least http://www.fredmiranda.com/revie… (it's a good place for lens reviews too)
Both beyond set price limit, but noone said it's a cheap sport..

the thing about Canon is that you pay premium for the name recognition -- though if you want to buy primes you can't really go any other way... Though i do have some fine Zenit (Russian made) lenses attached to my d20 via an adapter.

since this is a camera thread. I am going to ask everyones opinion on this camera.
- nocomply0
cosmo - i own it..its great. sure you can spend lots of extra money on lenses or step it up to a 30D or whatever, but bottom line is that this camera (even with its crappy kit lens) makes great photos. if you are a pro or have been shooting for years you may find yourself wanting something more, but for most of us this camera is fine.
