Losing actual weight isn't the real issue. It's toning the muscles around your abdomen for those of you that have "beer-guts".
You can put on healthy muscular weight. I weigh 185 lbs. but look like I weigh 170 lbs. You can work out like crazy and eat well, and you're weight might not go down based upon the fact that you are building up muscle.
Everyone's metabolism is different.

Cool. We're all in our early 30s.
It's cool, yet sad to see no one under 30 in this thread yet.
All those 22 year old 'I still got a thing called metabolism that lets me eat and drink what I want' bastards sicken me. :)

(Jan 2 07, 06:57)I was thinking of starting an unfit 07 thread. More bbq food, and more beer, ways to keep motivated during the winter months.

I will drink, smoke, eat and sit on my ass in 2007, just like I have been doing for the last 13 years.
All I had to do to drop the 15 unwanted pounds was quit drinking Coke.

Well I'm 24 and I still got a thing called metabolism that lets me eat and drink what I want.
Though after xmas I feel a little bloated. I never used to lift weights before I started my current job (1.5 years ago). I always just ran and played sports.
Since this time last year I have been going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week because we have a gym in the basement of our building which is free to employees and empty in the evenings. I just plug in my ipod to the stereo and do a little cv and then some weights for about an hour. I was a bit slack before christmas but now I'm motivated again and brought my gym kit in today with good intentions.
I figure, there are so many obese people in the uk now, I may as well try and look after myself while I can be bothered. Plus I got to strengthen my legs and back before I go snowboarding in 3 weeks!

I'm in. I'm 26 but definitely need to loose a few l-b-s. I guess this time it will work since i will have a support group...and a pic of konas wife with a mustache on my fridge...

Kuz. Sounds like you're a 'hard gainer', most likely an 'ectomorph' with a bit of 'mesomorph' thrown in.

Try this. For a diet try taking in 25-40 grams of protein per meal 6x a day. Maybe 2 of your meals coming from protein shakes at 10am and 4pm.
For training try a 10-10-24-24 split.
ie... say you're doing a chest press. Do 4 sets. 10 reps for the first set and 10 for the second. This means load up on weight so you're struggling on your 8th, 9th and 10th rep. Then, for your 3rd and 4th set drop the weight in half and double the reps.
It works. In two months I've gone from 190lbs and a 34" waist to 190lbs with a 31" waist. It builds muscle very fast.

kona - looking forward to the programs. i think the handlebar mustache will be a good motivator too.
happy new year!

that's good advice k0na
btw, I stopped taking the 'Muscle Milk'. I was gaining too fast, that stuff just tears it up in some people.

(Jan 2 07, 07:44)I did too. It was something I liked to drink in the morning but it has way to much fat for a guy trying to lose a bit of fat. Went back to Pro-Complex protein. 1 gram of fat per serving and it tastes pretty good.
I'm excited about this too.
Can't wait to grow the mustache. :)

Went back to Pro-Complex protein, you say?
*heads out to local GNC to investigate
- k0na_an0k0

(Jan 2 07, 08:09)I don't think your penis would ever fit in there. It's way to big. Or can they supersize those pants?!?
