Out of shape like me? Let's start a NT Fit Club.
honest has got me motivated. We'll use this thread to encourage each other and exchange workout advice and diet tips.
Anyone else gonna join, or just these crickets over here in the corner?

I've been busting my ass at the gym for years. I'm in decent shape for a 33 year old. But I hate to go.
No, I DREAD it. I drink like a fish, it evens itself out I guess.

I've been hitting the weights hard since 1990. Finally, at the ripe old age of almost 33, I'm actually starting to get burned out on the concept of working out everyday. Injuries, work, family, living 10 miles from the gym, and the desire to actually sleep are all playing a major factor in deterring me from getting to the gym as often. But in the end there is no excuse. I've preached that to everyone I know for many years. Now, it's a new year, I'm actually disgusted with how I look now and there will be a new gym opening less than a 1/2 mile from my house this spring, so I'm determined to get fit. I'm even considering doing a mini-triathlon possibly or some friggin outdoor race. Anyone got any links to amateur trail racing or whatever the hell they call that? Kinda like the Eco Challenge, but 1/10 the distance! HAHA

You can wear your temple out by obsessively cleaning it too.

According to the suggestions so far, I should be:
doing a combination of: a rigourous push-up routine during a marathon sex session with or without my wife (since according to someone a psychological trauma makes you lose appetite) whilst eating lots of greens and foregoing any alcohol and finishing with some smoking.

Right here. It's been about 6-7 months since I've been able to exercise (I was 3-4 years as a Div1 NCAA Athlete in College + 3-4 years before that in High School - all rowing). I'm starting up actually as soon as I get a refill on my inhaler (Exercise induced Asthma). Going to be doing 3 days to start with - all before work at the Philadelphia Sports Club nearby my work (get a discount from work).
Once I get going in a month or so it very well may be an every morning thing during the work week.
But planning on: 10 mins of jogging + 45 mins of rowing on the Machines (as it's really the only way I know how to exercise - as I've been doing it for 8 years haha) on Mondays and Fridays. Body Circuit on Wednesday.
Once I get into it in a month or so I'll be doing the Jogging/Rowing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the body circuit on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I'm not fat at all (155-160lbs, 6' tall) but I'm getting out of shape more and more, and I want to get back to the shape that I was in before my senior year of college (152lbs, 6.7% body fat).
So in short - count me in ;)
Also, regarding the whole "dieting" or "diet tips" thing...unless you are going to change your life style and habits in order to incorporate your new diet, it's more or less a pointless exercise. When I was training the summer before-last, we had a U Penn Nutritionist in talking about ways to eat, ways to train, and different ways of dieting while still keeping competative (we were in the Lightweight category - no one over 160lbs with a boat average of 155lbs). 1 of the things he mentioned for us was an athlete modified "Atkins" where you "live low and train high" with carbs. For the large majority of the day keep a low/lower carb intake. An hour before and after your workouts is your window of consumption for high amounts of carbs that is used for the energy of when you work out. It was also said to eat a lot of Protein - which was great because that's usually what I ate anyway haha - amongst other things.
Just some things to think about. Unless you're going to be completely changing around how you live, work, and play in reference to dieting, it won't do much good for you - the MOST IMPORTANT THING to keep in mind is eating sensibly and not stuffing your face every time you can.

i have vowed to lose 20 lbs by my birthday (Feb 15th).

I'm in.
Although I have a bit of a start. I've been dieting for 2 months for a vacation I'm taking next week. My wife has been kicking my ass in the gym lately. Yesterday... 1hr 30min at the gym and I burn 800 calories.
After years of pure strength training with heavy weight I've shifted gears into core training. The medicine ball, resistance bands, circuit training. I've dropped 15lbs and it feels so good.
Tell you guys what. I'll talk to my wifey and see if she'll make up a few generic programs for different levels of fitness for you guys (and gals).
And if I have the time, I'll get a fake handlebar mustache and snap a few pics at the gym in various 'trainer poses' screaming 'COMON YOU SORRY SACK OF SHIT, GIVE ME 5 MORE' and 'DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT OPENING THIS DOOR FLOUNDER' and such for you to print out and hang on your fridge door.
haha.
This is a great idea G. I need some motivation.

ok i'm in, since everyone else in their 30's is joining I better too. I've been planning on eating better and mixing in more exercise anyway. summer's no problem, I ride my MB 3-4 times a week. But since it's winter, it's a lot more difficult.
1st order of business. Better food. More fruits and veggies, lower carbs. And I always try to avoid eating after 9 pm.
as far as alcohol, I guess it's wine? Would that be the least harmful for those that want to indulge?
- rafalski0
I'm in too!
I will be 33 this February, and last time I weighted myself the scale said 99 Kilos, and it was a month before Christmas.
We all know it, bitches, if we don't get in shape now, it'll be a downhill ride soon! :)And Jens, stop moaning, pass the tanning lotion, will ya? You're Dutchboy-black already!
- k0na_an0k0
Cool. We're all in our early 30s.
It's cool, yet sad to see no one under 30 in this thread yet.
All those 22 year old 'I still got a thing called metabolism that lets me eat and drink what I want' bastards sicken me. :)
- version30
29 actually

awesome kona!
I'm all over this shit...
mr anok, someone somewhere reccomended me Johhn Beardl (sp?) and i got his nutrition guide and was gonna follow that. High in protein - got some whey protein and mixed protein and all sorts of crazy stuff
do you have experience with this fella know of his methodologies???
My target is to hit 13stones by the summer and maintian it (thats about gaining 14lbs i think??). Want to gain it in mainly muscle mass tho obviously.
I am very lean and have harrd time putting on weight and easy time losing weight. Been pretty strict working out basic press ups sit ups for the last 6 months and HEAVY cardio stuff. But need to gain muscle mass now and STRENGTH building so i can beat moth in an arm wrestle.
Thanks for this!!
Yay gang, NT rocks!!!
