i prefer mac laptops because i can, and do, run 3 different OSs on it. if i were concerned about price above all, i'd live in a cardboard box in the park and wear discarded newspapers

i guess at the end of the day what needs doing is to take test-drives and figure out what works best for you personally

we use pcs here at school and they're garbage. it probably has something to do with the fact taht a bunch of different people are all working on the same computers, and some of those people don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
i have a mac at home and it's flawless. i bought it from the 'deals' section on the apple site.
you can pick up a 15" macbook pro for like 1600 right now.
making the switch now with the new os x coming out would be wise.
vista is a pile of garbage that has a lot of new features that are actually 2 years old borrowed from other os.

If you're comfortable on a PC, do you really want to spend $2000 to find out if you like a mac?
Debate aside, that's a lot of $ to spend to figure out if you're going to like a mac.

good point.
maybe first go the the apple store and spend some time 'working' on a mac. get a feel for the apps. it's os. the system.
then go to like circuit city or something and play around with a pc.
the new macs really smoke the pc benchtest wise.
but ultimately.
think about what you're using it for.. then decide.

man, if I could go out and spend £1600 on a PC laptop, or even better a desktop right now, its fucking scary what I could get for it.
My experience with macs? they look great, they feel great to use while you don't have much open and you're using low level apps, they fuck up *hugely* when you really want to work on them, multi task, use heavy files, stuff like that, and what's the answer?
buy a better one, which costs £600 more. throw good money after bad.
I love the things, but they're a dirty pleasure I could never ever justify on my salary and with the working needs I have, and mine here in work regularly makes me feel like nailing my hand to the desk just to distract from the pain of using it.
sorry folks. all hat and no trousers.

Hmmm.
What say we call this a draw? It's kinda like buying a puppy... ya just gotta' go and play with 'em before you bring one home.and that's when the fun begins.

A Mac user switches to Vista
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1687…I have been running windows since the first version of '95. The quad cores coming have sparked my interest.

[..]still looking for a dvd cloning software that matches pc's "any dvd / clone dvd"[..]
moldero
(Jan 29 07, 19:22)..and a decent video player that supports all kinds of subtitles and a simple yet usable photo browser/viewer that would match functionally the likes of acdsee/irfanview..
I've had a mac for almost a year and it bugs me its multimedia support is so unexpectedly poor.

Wife got a Macbook this last summer. She never touched a mac before that. Now i'm official not allowed to TOUCH her laptop. She's already talked one of her girlfriends to switching to apple.
I've got PC desktop that kicks ass, but i'm probably going to buy a new Macbook Pro when the new model comes out this summer. Bootcamp and all.
