If this is true, it means that I can now start using all those gift cards I have sitting there.. this is great news! The poor quality and the DRM are the 2 reasons I only bought 1 album on itunes.

(Feb 9 07, 08:05)do films and music videos have drm as well?

nope

oh yeah, especially movies, region coding and device licensing is a bitch. The studios have been trying to keep movies off computers for years.

(Feb 9 07, 08:26)no, meeklo. apple is not about to remove drm. in fact, they can't make any decision regarding drm, because it is not their choice. the lables that own the music set the drm terms, so it's up to them to make a decision to remove it. apple is certainly in favor of no drm, as it greatly simplifies things for them and lowers their costs. in related news, emi (one of the big 4) is considering selling their catalog drm-free, but as a way to compete with itms.

"is considering selling their catalog drm-free"
hey,,
maybe I skip a "MAY" on the thread.. I just think they HAVE to..how's that? :)

either way , it will be interesting to see how they handle this. I should be getting my iTV soon and this plays a pretty big role in its ability.

It's going to very competitive I think. Jobs is trying to disarm the the competition a little. I bought a Sony AR laptop with a built-in TV tuner recently. It came with Sony's own movie service app that let's you rent movies and then erases them after 3 views . Kind of like the old Divx services.

He has to open it up, for it to succeed. If the entire logistics of the iTV is a closed system, that might suck.
