(Apr 26 07, 12:54)I gave up kerning years ago. I just leave AUTOKERN on now. Learned from the best.

is Baskerville alive?
- canuck0
I don't think he made it back from the interview.

bullshit, d5ive is so dedicated at kerning, we once caught him kerning pixel fonts.
- myobie0
is this any better?
ha, auto kern...
thanx for all the comments...
i was told by some people to squint my eyes when kerning, cause it makes it fuzzy and stuff...so i tried using the blur effect to blur the letters some (off and on, not the whole time)
i also make a shape that i could move around so i could only see three letters at a time and kern that way (in increments)...
iono if any of that is helping...

i always try to identify some basic transition types in the negative space such as round/round, round/vertical, and vertical/vertical.
using your example: "m-p" would be a vertical/vertical. "p-h" however is a round/vertical. my rule is there should be more space between a vertical/vertical than a round/vertical transition.
once you establish the letterspacing that's right for your design, as well as the typeface, you'll find this method makes it much easier to implement consistent kerning because you always have a reference.

(Apr 26 07, 13:03)haha welcome to the lazy crowd. ;)

maybe u should try making it fuzzy with ur eyes and now with the tool :p
its one of those things that u just have to determine how far u want two of the letters to be.. and make all the other letters fit the same distance from eachother..
kerning will come in because some letters like T and W etc leave negative spaces that can be squished up a bit closer.. i dunno
ur a + m are still too close

(Apr 26 07, 13:05)i once saw him kerning a row of litter bins in some alley once..
- oldelpaso0
actually no don listen to me.. im just waking up.. my perspective is totally wrong :p
- myobie0
i do make it fuzzy with my eyes, i was seeing if it would help any...it didn't...i think it made it harder
dudes, thanx for showing me examples...i know you all are busy and i don't want you to think i was asking you to rekern my stuff, but i do appreciate it...i am looking over the differences
yeah, i get the ideas and i 'know' how to do it, but when i get doing it i keep moving everything closer and closer and then i have to back out and back out...etc
don't quote that out of context...
