gramme, do you think republicans actually ever want to overturn roe v. wade?
What would get the fundies out to the polls if they didnt have the evil baby killers to vote against?

(May 2 07, 13:55)I think some actually do want to change it and some don't give a shit. Either way, that's what I believe in.
On the death penalty: because I believe life to be sacred, I think that if someone has been proven guilty beyond any shadow of a doubt to be a murderer, that they should be repaid in kind by our justice system. Only in this context. You take a life, you forfeit your own. I believe that while spiritually they are not beyond help, they have lost the right to inhabit their physical body.
I understand the arguments against the death penalty; my two younger brothers, both fellow Christians, are strongly against the death penalty because of their understandable doubt of the quality of our justice system. They would rather put killers away for life. My feeling is that I don't think it's fair to allow them to live that long. Again, I can see both sides of that argument. Some say that not one innocent person should die, and thus the death penalty is wrong; others say that a few innocent deaths are better than many truly guilty killers being allowed to live.
At this point I side with the latter argument, but am not particularly dogmatic about it. It doesn't seem to be quite as clear cut to me as abortion.
Anyone see Children of Men? I thought the contrast was stunning between how people reacted to babies and the gift of pregnancy in the movie, in light of how reverence for life in the real world has been so far degraded.

Not quite sure how this makes you any better than the murderer, but you know, I'm kinda dense.

it's a thing we have ;)

any of you's ever had a really good blow job?
the kind where your toes curl up and your feet become like stumps at the ends of your legs?
man, I could really go for something like that right now.

(May 2 07, 14:10)It's justice, plain and simple. A sex offender is branded as such for life and thus can't work with kids, etc. A murderer forfeits their right to live by killing.
Would you care to explain your stance dobs, hopefully without using insults as filler?

Would you rape a rapist as justice? Molest a molester?

is it just me, or is the liberty post the jankiest fucking fly-by-night rag ever to exist in print or pixel?
fuck them and their flag-waving propaganda pony.

we should also set the house of pyromaniacs on fire and let police officers that have been verbally abused do the same to the verbal abusers.
it sets such a great example for society and future generations as a whole.

It also doesn't satisfy the debt it creates to society. The Ancient Chinese had it right. If you murder a man you live as incarcerated labor and take care of his family.

(May 2 07, 14:18)Death penalty has been proven not to deter crime. Nuff said.
U may need some sort of righteous retribution, I don't.

(May 2 07, 14:24)No I would not. Taking a life is a more serious crime that deserves a more serious punishment. You're comparing two different scenarios that are not on equal ground.
As I hinted at in a previous post, the death penalty should be as quick and painless as possible. I think that's more than fair, especially for murderers who torture their victims. I do not think any kind of torture is ever ok. Get it over with as quickly as possible.
I do understand why people are against the death penalty, as stated before. For now I just think the scales swing in favor of a quick, merciful death penalty, but that could change. I don't want to completely close myself off on an issue like this that is a bit in the gray.

institutions of justice should be concerned with lowering crime rates, not settling the score. Life isnt a Charles Bronson movie, sadly.

(May 2 07, 14:39)Thank you for offering an explanation.
I believe in maintaining a death penalty purely on principal. I never said I supported it because of some promise of reducing crime. I don't expect that it really does deter people from murdering each other. That doesn't change the fact that killing is wrong, punishable by law, and that said punishment must be just.
I've said this before: grace and forgiveness is not the province of justice systems. Justice systems are all about repaying in kind. Punish the guilty, free the innocent. That's what a handful of people in the world's justice systems still strive for, at any rate.
If anyone ever killed someone dear to me, I hope I would have the grace to forgive them, not to want revenge.
You are confusing justice with revenge. Vengeance belongs to God. It never produces anything good. Have I made myself any clearer?

(May 2 07, 14:42)exactly.
evolution is about creating a better society by improving general human conscience on as many levels as possible. not about scores and eye for an eye as that has nothing to do with progression at all.
and if you do not believe in human progression, or you don't believe it helped us at all, i suggest to move back into a cage and knock women on the head and fuck them, regardless their age and die of incredible toothaches and have no real friends or whatever you value in this modern life of ours..
haha sorry, i am not angry..just let myself go there a bit..
jsut trying to point out that maintaining a thing like the death penalty in a society that believes in progression is not a constructive thing to do.
