Nice shot kid!
....and all you folks crying about her shooting two people, what would you rather happen to YOUR daughter? I would be perfectly happy to have my girl in one piece and have some cleaning to do, then have my child touched by one of those men.

The morality and ethics of principals is also behind my stance on abortion. I don't expect Roe v. Wade to ever be overturned. That has no bearing on the rights or wrongs of the matter. Just like a world that doesn't share my spiritual beliefs will not move my faith one centimeter. Winning or losing has never made anything right or wrong, despite the fact that in this devolved world wrong often triumphs.

so gramme, you need righteous retribution.
slippery slope, kid. let's go stone us some adulterous women!

you told me in the past that you think people should have their hands hacked off if they steal. I know you like to think you arent a fundie, but ya are.

"I've said this before: grace and forgiveness is not the province of justice systems. Justice systems are all about repaying in kind. Punish the guilty, free the innocent. That's what a handful of people in the world's justice systems still strive for, at any rate."
you know very very very very little about psychology and how good people can become bad people and yes, even vice versa return to becoming good people again. this happens a lot more then you would like to believe, unfortunately the good stories hardly ever make it to the media and that's why people become bitter and narrow minded.
i know a fair share of people working with (former) criminals in justice/psychology and other related fields and even though cynicism may have the upper hand amonst a lot of people these professionals maintain in their vision that people can be helped.
the justice system here is about getting evil out of society and restoring peace and tranquility amongst both victims and offenders. Yet offenders don't go unpunished in some cases they do but are put under strict psychological supervision.
good people can do bad things. everyone was born pure and many many factors can ruin a persons morality.
good people can lose it at one point. it happens.noone says that the people that have done no harm are in ANY way superior over the ones who did. All persons are human beings. And it is vile and repulsive to see that the "innocent" become justifiers of murder, because that is what this remains, murder.

(May 2 07, 14:53)You clearly have not read all of my previous post. I don't like the idea of anyone dying. Ever. For any reason. Can people be rehabbed, like Crouwel says? Absolutely. My faith is rooted in grace: forgiving people when they don't deserve to be forgiven. Anyone can change. I am walking proof of that. I was quite the fuck-up in high school and college, and I still make mistakes. I don't deserve on shred of the grace and forgiveness that I have been given.
HOWEVER: if justice systems offer grace to everyone, if they allow murderers to continue living, if they keep reducing child molesters' sentences and if juries continue to be swayed by stardom, personal emotions and the like, then justice systems willl continue to make themselves more and more useless.
This is why I think it could be possible for me to be persuaded against the death penalty in the future, as our justice system continues to be more and more flawed. No one can deny that it is certainly not what it used to be.
Dobs, you know...after I wrote the post about removing the hands of thieves, I thought about that one some more...and I think that is an extreme punishment in most cases. If a kid shoplifts, it would do more harm than good.
Before you declare hypocrisy on me, consider the nature of the crime. If you kill, you lose the right to live. You steal, you lose the right to own certain things. So...perhaps a better punishment for serious kleptos would be for their financial assets, etc. to be seized. So, I take back what I said about chopping off hands. I was wrong.
A government seizing the posessions of a thief does not bring them down to the thief's level. A government giving a fatal injection resulting in almost immediate death to a convicted mass murderer is not actually taking revenge.
- Crouwel0
regardless we agree on these motivations or not..
FACT IS:
a lot of innocent people have been executed. there have also been many cases that turned out to be selfdefense, only to be found out by evidence after the death penalty was carried out.
and that risk, that ALWAYS will be there, since the Justice system is being controlled by people like you and me, who make mistakes, is for me the ultimate reason you can NEVER convince me to be in favor of the death penalty.
it is just wrong. very wrong.
- mrdobolina0
I disagree.
Would it be possible for you to separate your religion from your political opinions, seeing as not everyone shares that view and maybe you should respect that? I mean, we give you off for Christmas and stuff... ;)
Or is that an outlandish request?

Crouwel, I fully believe that we should try to rehab criminals. They should still pay for their crimes.
My great aunt was raped by a man who broke into her home one night. She was 60 years old. Her husband had been dead for some time. She suffered numerous physical and I am sure psychological problems from this event.
The man was caught and eventually convicted. He spent many years in prison. Shortly after he was jailed, my aunt visited him in prison. She told him that she forgave him for what he had done to her. She then proceeded to to share her faith with him. He broke down, overwhelmed that she not only forgave him but actually cared about his spiritual well-being. He became a completely different man. But you know what? He served his sentence. My aunt wasn't about to try to get him out of jail; his change of heart did not change the fact of what he did. But what did change was his soul, so that whether he was free or in prison, dead or alive, he had nothing to fear because the fate of his soul had been sealed forever.

(May 2 07, 15:23)I hear what you're saying, and I am not saying you're wrong. I see both sides of this one. Both solutions have negative repercussions.
