It's almost as if you believe they purposefully set out to kill the poor bastard, Dobs.
Maybe it's just too much TV conditioning, but as much as tazers repel and disgust me, I don't view them as being one down from getting shot in the face. They're grim and alien, for sure - but think about it - they're, beyond the initial shock (if you excuse the pun) actually quite a logical and effective tool. When I worked as an electrician so many years ago, I got badly zapped a couple of times - was any lasting harm done? No. Was any harm beyond a few 10s of minutes done? No.
What's the alternative then? Wrestle him to the ground and end up in a brawl any way? Again, how's that any more civilised or effective?
No one here's suggesting that what the video shows (which, I assume you've seen? the article Jaline supplied doesn't tally with what I watched) is a great thing - but this was a situation which, imo, demanded he be restrained - it's not really their fault that they didn't have the language to pacify him. How else were they to ensure his compliance?
Maybe it's because I was brought up in an area which always had security concerns and my sense of freedom has been neatly martialled by the NWO, but I know when to shut up. When to comply. The fact that this didn't happen here says more about the poor sod's conduct than it does about the Police's.
Obviously, if they tazered him 4 times, there needs to be an investigation, but there again look closely at him before he goes down - I genuinely think he'd have come a cropper no matter how they chose to restrain him.
This is pointless anyway, you're as stubborn and blinkered as discipler and all your other nemeses when it comes to trying to see beyond your opinion.

(Nov 15 07, 10:14)They could have offered him chocolates, e.g. - usually distressed people can't resist it.

wrestle him to the ground, like they used to do 3 years ago.
I will say this one more time, the taser is for use when you feel your life is being threatened. That is it. Were their lives threatened? No. Was that creep at the John Kerry rally threateneing the lives of those rentacops? No. These things were brought into law enforcement to stop cops from shooting people. Not to take over for wrestling perps to the pavement.
If sticking to your guns for what you believe in is stubborn, I am sorry.

i agree that some taser usage has been unnecessary, dobs...
... but the minute they wrestle the dude to the ground... you're gonna cry 'physical abuse' or some shit like that... because you hate cops!!
... everyone here agrees cops fuck up, dude...
... you are pigeon-holing ALL cops in w/these guys/situation though...
... stop that!!!! STOP!! :D

the guy deserved to get his ass kicked, so don't say I would cry this or that about him being wrestled to the ground.
If 4 cops can't take down some unarmed dude in an airport without a taser, I don't think you should have so much faith in them.

overpopulation will inevitably lead to higher murder rates
We really don't have enemies. It's just that some of our best friends are trying to kill us.

"I will say this one more time, the taser is for use when you feel your life is being threatened. That is it. Were their lives threatened?"
Well, I don't know what US and Canadian laws specify, but if I was classifying a taser for use, I'd have it way below that of guns, somewhere just above the baton level.
That's certainly what's happening over here, where they're being distributed to police forces beyond fire control officers and are being legislated for use against un-armed, but potentially violent offenders - and we're that little island famous for not issuing weapons to its street plods.
This is different to that Kerry thing too - that kid was patently not ever a physical threat, they weren't in an airport and he hadn't been throwing shit around and breaking stuff whilst muttering darkly in an inscrutable tongue, whilst ignoring the staff.
Again, this one's one of those shades of grey, but i wouldn't expect you to bother trying to see that.

shades of grey?
here in america (which I realize this is from canada) the taser is used so that cops don't use their guns when they feel their lives threatened because there were so many times that people were being shot.
So either these fuckers uphold the law or break it. It matters to me.
If this was in England, then go by your own rules. "

It's ok to beat someone up, but not ok to subdue them by other means which are, generally-speaking, safer alternatives to a boot to the head?
it's ok to hark on for hours in terms of moral certainty, but when confronted, fall back on absolutes of laws that you don't even appear to respect?
You glibly prod me for basing my view on my own country's laws and my own moral centre, yet have just spent all these previous posts harking on about Canada when you're in.. America?
I get it now - it's not that you're polarised at all - you just you flick between both poles so quickly you define your greys through the weird stroboscopic haze.
- mrdobolina0
what would have happened to him before the advent of the fucking taser, nairn?
be fucking realistic. he would have gotten beaten down by those cops but would have lived. that is my entire damn point here.
what poles am I flicking between or whatever it is you are saying?
- Witt0
well to be honest i think a pissed off man in the airport doesn't need to be bloody beaten down or tasered (? new verb to me sorry) or shot dead... I think if someone had tried to talk with him a bit the whole episode might have ended differently.
But there's no need to extrapolate beyond this particular event.
- detritus0
"what would have happened to him before the advent of the fucking taser, nairn?"
- he'd of got fucking beat up and fucking very fucking well ended up with fucking permanent fucking injuries or even fucking possibly have fucking died? It happens. Regularly. The way I look for it - in a drunken, Jackass moment, I can imagine if a friend had a taser, I'd bet I could take a tasering. I'd never volunteer to get beaten up. The latter merely seems brutal through its novelty, the former is merely brutal.
"be fucking realistic. he would have gotten beaten down by those cops but would have lived. that is my entire damn point here."
- Fucking possibly. Or he may have died anyway, like happens so often in police custody beatings.
"what poles am I flicking between or whatever it is you are saying?"
- Oh, I don't know - it seemed a relevant continuance of my theme after the three ..er.. dualities i posted.'fuckingfuckingfuckingfucking'

hahahaha.. I got that the wrong way around..

your personal preference as to whether you would rather be beaten up or tasered is irrelevant.
the point is restrain the guy using force, with 4 guys you could do it without fucking killing him and if you can't maybe you should become a fisherman or a fireman or something.
being a cop or a rentacop or whatever gives you training to restrain people and get the situation under control.
If he would have been beaten to death we would be back to square one again, unnecessary force.
can the taser really be described as safe, cuz it can kill you after getting hit with it a few times, apparently.
- mrdobolina0
what it all boils down to is that tasers are a bad idea IMO.
go ahead and berate me for it.
- version30
tasers make everyone a potential executioner, but guns are bad?

what it all boils down to is that tasers are not as bad as getting beaten up IMO.
go ahead and berate me for it.
