Working from home?

I work from home, and am usually at by desk before 8, and work through til 7. You do find yourself not always 100% commited, and browsing sites etc... but you do the same chatting in an office... it just seems more obvious at home. I always write a list of what I've achieved for the day just for my own sake, otherwise its easy to think you haven't done anything as you're not always getting feedback from people everyday.

I'm way more productive sitting in my home office, despite the lures of the TV, the bed, etc...
Not having to deal w/ caustic co-irkers makes it sweet.

I was exclusively from home.
I really do enjoy it but it takes loads of self control. I could get a lot more done if I worked in an office but I think the quality of my work is better when I'm at home.
I don't seem to get too distracted anymore by things like my bed, the tv, my dog, etc..
If you think you have the self control to keep yourself focused then It's a very good thing..
And it's fun to brag to your friends that you work in your underwear..

good, if you have discipline

I work in an office and it's just so much nicer. You can get feedback from other designers and it stimulates/inspires you.

I'm socially deficient, so going to the office (part-time web job) is almost a must for me to hone my non-existent skills. I really have to learn to talk to people (whether it's fake or not), and make some more eye-contact. It's a learning process.
I do school work and freelance work at home anyway, so it's basically a balance.

To answer your question, I am more productive in the office. I love working at home, but co-workers coming by every once in a while to collaborate, give you more stuff to do, discussing things, all makes you finish the work. I know if I were home my work would be scattered throughout the day (all hours). At work, I finish everything before I leave around 4pm.
- Exactly what I was trying to say... Only I leave at 6pm :)goingpublic

I would also be kind of lazy at home. I need to get around...Jaline

I work on my own clients pretty much all the time now (I very occasionally go back to studio freelance for quick money or to get through slow weeks) and I like to get up and go out in the morning rather than working from home. I rent a desk in a record label so I have an office to go to and the added bonus of a client to work with before I even start looking for work.
That kind of deal is sweet if you can find one, you hardly notice the desk rent because you tend to work it off really quickly.

don't you work only on wednesdays?

I feel like it may be kind of nice at home to be able to do some work from 9am-1pm, then maybe go on a bike ride, or run some errands, then maybe do some more work in the evening, or even late night? Here at my office they are so strict on time, i work from 7:30-4:30 and have to take lunch at noon till 1. It just sucks.

I work from home full time (self employed) and I much prefer it.
You do have to be disciplined for sure so I set the alarm and get up and work the same hours as my clients so I'm always showered and ready to work by 9am and I finish at 5.30-6pm.
My wife also works from home so I have company during the day so I'm not a total social tard.

I work from home 90% of the time, as a freelancer.
at least 2 days of the week I go to a local coffee shop, people find it strange how can I concentrate there, but it combination with a good music playlist and a few cups of coffee I'm a machine.it takes a lot of discipline to do it!
Make sure you dont have an xbox with EA skate on it.

I worked from home for years, and now have my own office space. It's nice because now when I walk out of my place, I know I'm going to sit down and work. It helps that I put my sweet Mac Pro at the office and my dinky PC at home, so I always want to go to work on a better machine :) Small studio space with friends though, I'm all about it, that's what I have here.

i think the best way is to mix. sometimes home, sometimes office. Feedback from other designers and collegues will make you better.
And sometimes, when u have too much work you will be stuck at home and wont see the sun light at all, hehe.

i like doing 3days/week in the office and 2days from home.

I like it. I am more productive when there is not someone looking over my shoulder all the time.

Depends on your home environment. Married? Kids? Animals?
I find that being out of the house (cafe or my studio) gives me a sense of "being at work". Conversely, I'm more attentive to the family when I'm home cuz the lure of getting a little extra work done isn't there.

best way - set up a small office with your friends designers and work there :) share work, share skills and have freedom

I've had a home studio for several years now. I think it completely depends on your character and personality. Some people are easily self-motivated and good at tasking themselves – others are easily distracted. It works well for me, but I have rules. Rules like, I always dress for work (keeps even the phone calls more professional). I have set hours. I am more serious about keeping track of my time each day than if I worked in an office. This is all in the context of being home alone all day, no kids here to distract.

I work from home from time to time. If I am completely swamped, I will work from home. No distractions. I get tons more done at home than I do in the office. I have a VPN setup, so I have access to all assets and network resources from wherever I am.
- same here - i'm not even sure where the server is located that i work on, so what's it matter where i work from (as long as i have no meetings that day)?bulletfactory
