I've heard that it's full of butch lesbians who own cats and hang out at book stores and cafes.

I like it here. The Walker's pretty cool. To get a sample of the design firms go to the Lodge at Tyro3.com/main. It's horribly outdated, but still a great resource. By the way it's shit shitty cold here.
- I grew up in northern Michigan.. That shits in my blood..lifterBARON
- you'll get more snow there toojaylarson

It's a great town. It's an ad town. It's a creative town. There are a lot of designers, there are a lot of artists. There's a good supportive community here in the "arts" realm. There's great food. There's great creative. Overall, it's a great town. Sure it's cold, but hey, that just keeps us together. Plus, we have ice shanty's. http://www.artshantyprojects.org…

There are alot of people who call themselves designers or artists here. Either you are really good, or you work at Starbucks and live in a bungalow with 5 other people.
The vibe is relatively good. I think there is alot of underlining bullshit that alot of the agencies have here - corporate drama and all that stuff.

minneapolis is pretty great. it's a little-big city as lame as that sounds. it's got a huge amount of design/art/music going for it. tons of art studios, a large number of reputable design studios (both interactive and print), and a handful of corporate design places as well.
on top of that, the other 3 seasons here are pretty remarkable as far as scenery and such.
if you need any more info just shoot me an email. like i said, it's a pretty nice place with a lot of design going for it.

a bridge collapsed at the main thoroughfare. traffic can be pretty rough coming from the suburbs inland. yes, the walker is good. so are the lagoon and uptown theaters. good indie films there. but the walker is notorious for having more experimental films. this is also a retail town with best buy and target claiming a big chunk of those creatives....

The Mighty Ducks movies took place in minneapolis, and i always thought "wow. that looks like the most depressing place imaginable."

and to play off jay's direction to the ladies, and combine it to a quote my good friend JS always says: "man, i love this town!"

Cold as monkey balls, has an excellent design community.

Art is great. We have a place here called the Black Forest which is a German Food place that has a Richard Avadon Print because he spent so much time there. It was shot like 12 years later... ( because girlfriend was cheating on the guy or something). Walker is a prestigious art museum that houses a very fine modern art collection. Today I just got done with a private viewing of the documentary on Cristo and Jean-Claude and their work they did in New York known as the Gates. Design is outstanding, we have firms like Duffy Design, Larsen, Nanckeville who have a national and international standard. Minnesota AIGA division houses the former president of the National AIGA, who created student involvement in the AIGA. They also hold outstanding lectures from people like Steven Heller. Advertisement city is true as our biggest pulled in over 1 billion billed for 2008. We have firms like Charmichael Lynch who is doing amazing. Also some of the bigger dogs like Fallon who is consistently winning awards like the British Advertising Awards. The Gutherie is a new building that is stunning. St. Paul that I live in up on the old Cathedral hill is another hot spot for more of the traditional bars. Night life is nice but not as big as the huge towns. The dike thing, could be true... We do have a famous bar known as the Gay 90's. Tons of small firms like SPUNK Design machine, Sventhsin, Eight Hour Day, Catchfire. Minneapolis is a great place to live as I experienced. Not too large, not too small. E-mail me if you have any more questions be more than happy to help.
