What's in a name?

I work at a small web design outfit (3 of us). We're called Internet Essentials.
What do you think?
Is it inspiring enough for a creative company?
Will we only attract the lower end of the market?
Does it even matter?Personally I worry it doesn't match the trend of design company names. And people will think we turn out table based, comic-sans ridden, Dreamweaver soup. Or worse... sell broadband!
Gonna speak to my boss soon... any pearls of wisdom?

Drop the 'internet' for a start.
imho of course.

Bugger! Forgot to make clear it's the company name that's in question!

... a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.

Def make a change in the name if possible. The current name just doesn't give a positive or creative first impression.

Do you sell modems or wifi?
Cos if not, I'd change the name. Also consider if you will ever branch out into print or screen work. The name will be pretty irrelevant then and you will probably have to change or shorten it (IE?)Why lumber yourself with a constrictive name from the get go? Change it and have something that represents your ethos or some aspect of your company/personality instead.

I was thinking of making a restaurant comparison to my boss. I thought of these:
Web firm -> restaurant
Internet Essentials -> Happy Eater
Internet Essentials -> Little ChefAshby Web Design -> Ashby Fish Bar
Clear left -> AubergineAnyone think of any more?
Or maybe I should shut my mouth and keep my job...

maybe you should get someone else to do the talking
- bulletfactory0
it sounds like a 3-person 'design' outfit.

seriously though, your worries are warranted.

Two points:
-Avoid ANY reference to tech (no internet, digital, web, etc.)
-Think "verbs"
- or something with the owner's name eg: Saville Assoc. etcbulletfactory

You could do worse. There's these guys in metro-Detroit called "Web Radicals." So bad I'm embarrassed for them.

I'd go with what ian said...
Have something that represents your ethos or some aspect of your company/personality, of course you have to work this out first... and that's the hard bit.
You could always go for 'kushman', that's an improvement on what you have at the mo'

i drive by this place named Stereo Encounters... makes me giggle everytime, esp since it's set in the 80s Pepsi font and the place looks like it still might have a few laserdisc players in the back.
