Does anyone know if there is a way of taking a PSD with say 100 layers and saving each of these layers out as a separate jpg? Can't see anyway of doing it in the help.
The problem has arisen using the PSD in ID and using layer options to turn on and off layers but it is grinding ID to a stand still.
Thanks for any advice.

do each of these layers create a whole?
or is each layer a separate entity?

Cheers - I'm feeling quite rusty in Photoshop.

Thanks ninja.
If I spent a few minutes looking into the functions I don't know, I'd save myself hours I bet. :/

Ranger, show us the file?. I can't help, I'm just curious why the fuck you would want to take 100 layers of psd into a layout app. Would love to see a screen shot, c'est possible?

I know you ain't asking me Tim but I would use it for the following:
When I design a website I do the visuals in PS, in one file split by Groups of layers. As I do a lot of the work on my PowerBook and a screen shot will not get the whole site in in one go (browser window and all) hence why I would save out different layers as Jpegs to bring into Indesign for a presentation to the client.

In a nutshell - working on an exhibition stand - another designer has sourced images to use and dropped them all into a photoshop file to pass on to me - knowing that you can use the layers option in Indesign to select the relevant layer you want. Problem is by duping the PSD wihin ID that way it is making the ID file huge. So I have saved all the layers out as separate images so I can bring them in as flat images.

I use processes like that when I do icon design. I make a single doc at the standard size and create each icon in a group. Another thing to look into is Layer Comps which can save settings like layer visibility, appearance, and position so you can filter through several iterations and layouts. Then you can export your layer comps to files.
- Nice - I like - had never looked at the layer comps before.Ranger
- I keep telling myself I'm going to record some video podcasts about my process. I do UI design in pshop 8 hrs a dayninjasavant
