One major thing that nobody is discussing but that has actual political ramifications is the national failure of the democratic party at the congressional level.
In the end the ticket was so uninspiring that the party likely won't control either the house or the senate. And it's not like Biden'll have the stones to negotiate much.
But in a time where we need sweeping legislative agendas, we're more than likely looking at the last two years of Obama all over again, where a newly empowered Mitch McConnell obstructs any and all government work beyond the bare minimum to keep people alive (which is what we've been witnessing).
So like yeah the presidency matters but, at this point, we're still a car stuck in the mud.
- (This is also a massive failure considering some were thinking dems would pick up 7 seats)colin_s
- It will be interesting to see what happens. On the one side, you have people like AOC who want meaningful change. But, on the other side, you have people likeContinuity
- ... Pelosi, who are virtually indestinguishable from, say, a Reagan-era Republican in their ideology.Continuity
- indistinguishable*, even.Continuity
- Biden has been a centrist his entire career, he buckles like a cheap belt. Sonofabitch voted and championed Reagan's budget and tax plans in the 80's.face_melter
- the point is removing a lunatic right now, I'm not sure anyone is getting moist at the prospect of having Biden running the US.fadein11
- Dems are going to hold the House, no question about it. There is still an outside chance they can win the Senate if everything goes their way.yuekit
- It's also quite possible they can win the Senate in the next election, 2022. Looks like they will only be 1 or 2 votes short at most.yuekit
- ^it's tied for the Senate now 47-47grafician
- Looks like the Senate is going to come down to two runoff elections in January. Both in Georgia.yuekit
- They have control of the house, probably a tie in the senate. You keep looking for problems just because you don't think they're left enough.zarkonite

What are the chances that Trumps concession speech goes something like this?
- god, how I miss decency.zaq
- ^ isn’t it weird? seems so surrealGnash
- totally. Trump has push the bar down to new lows, sadly his ''style'' influenced many politicians around the Globe and it's the new normal maybeBennn
- ..and it fits with our new society filled up with Social Media where its just noise and screams and polarization. We're going into new normals that arent decentBennn

The king of fools...
- Definitely, that shit scares people. I got so many texts from people outside of NYC that were asking "are you alright? It looks like chaos on the news"nb
- I was like "what? why? Everything is fine. Oh, the Floyd protest? Nah, it's fine, it's like 15 blocks away, and they're not going to walk down this way."nb
- My family in rural areas thought all of Brooklyn was on fire and cops were getting beat up or something. Fake news, kids. Fake news.nb
- When people see those things they get afraid and suddenly want the police to bust heads... anything to protect them. But it's all about perspective, isn't it.nb
- @nb can't have perspective when you watch Fox all day like half the country damngrafician

This should be pretty clear for now:
Mail ballots saved the Dems and will win the Presidency.
In other news:
"JUST IN: Nevada's Secretary of State says there are approximately 190,150 ballots left to count, 90% of which are from heavily-Democratic Clark County"
"PENNSYLVANIA - 20 electoral votes
Donald Trump: 50.2% - 3,237,103
Joe Biden: 48.6% - 3,134,692

Donald Trump: 49.5% - 2,438,181
Joe Biden: 49.2% - 2,425,417
Reporting: 99%"grafician - Georgia is very very close, but looks like Biden will hit 50% and win that too...grafician
- mail ballots didn't save the dems, they were just votes like any other vote.fadein11
- Trump could easily take all 5 of those. At this point all the stats and polls in the world don't mean shit.nb
- *nb really? this is the point when stats mean pretty much everything, you have v.accurate data on actual votes, what do you mean?fadein11
- @fade no man, the mail ballots saved the day, they were a VERY smart move during a pandemic and with close on the whole electiongrafician
- nb, its not polls anymore its big data. still better wait, but different than polls... or how trump says: polestank02
- imagine if there were no mail in ballots to count still, Trump already declared himself Emperor by now...grafician
- You do realize that everyone in the US already knows all this and you’re just coming off as naive for just figuring it out and acting like you are insightful.monospaced
- Also mail in ballots wasn’t a wining strategy ffs. It was just a way to vote without risking covid transmission. You’re a fucking clown.monospaced
- There have ALWAYS been mail ballots. You sound so fucking stupid graf.monospaced
- They didn’t save anything. They weren’t a smart move. They are just regular votes. Go to sleep. Leave this to the people who actually participate. Please.monospaced
- @mono no, voting by mail early was a winning "strategy" as before election day over 100 mil. already have voted. If all those ppl waited for election day...grafician
- ...to cast their vote, it would have been a disaster and you know this.grafician
- Derp. Every American knows that. Voting by mail IMPLIES it was early. So sorry, no graf, it was not a strategy to win. You’re flat out wrong.monospaced
- To prove my point, if republican voters voted early by mail the result would be identical. The method is irrelevant.monospaced
