- That's x 43.5 less people.
Dis.palimpsest - The data clearly shows that abortions result in less deaths than childbirth so abortions should be the choice over childbirth in all cases.palimpsest
- Childbirth: 999,826 extra lives per million vs 174 deaths
Abortions: 0 extra lives per million vs 4 deathspalimpsest - Maths, how do it works?palimpsest
- And that's not taking into account multiple pregnancies.palimpsest
- black mortality in childbirth is 4x higher than white mortality in childbirth. so that crowd of 174 should be a lot blacker.sarahfailin
- That should tip the scale even further.palimpsest

Just saw an ad for two Democrats in my state and the headline was something like “The Democratic establishment doesn’t want us to win!”
Democrats will continue to lose (or just barely win but have no real power, I guess?) again and again. What a dumb party. America suffers.
It blows my mind that Republicans have figured out how to get people like Lauren Boebert into congress and democrats can’t get their shit together?
It feels like they prefer to ride the “we’re slightly better than Republicans” position because it just barely keeps them in the kind of power they want: that which doesn’t require them to make any progress. Stagnation means they keep their jobs. Fucking losers.
- The left has it's own extremists. While I personally agree with some of their agenda, it hurts the party overall.formed
- The GOP has found learned people are lazy and stupid, overall, and if they shout loud enough people listen.formed
- The ad headline shows that there are members of the party who are campaigning on the failures of that party.nb
- It’s a weird contradiction that only makes sense because the DNC and dem leadership is soooo unpopular and ineffectivenb
- Like the failure and stagnation is so prevalent that their own candidates are campaigning about it hahahahnb
- I agree with both of you. Insane how we can't just get a normal, well qualified, candidate with natural leadership skills.monospaced
- It's sad that keeping the right from dragging us backward actually qualifies as progress. And we aren't even good at that anymore.monospaced
- THe GOP is also doing that, if you haven't noticed. The "RINO" crap. MAGA is a true disease and cult.formed
- Ah yes the endless cry of the democrats: “but the Republicans do it!!”nb

If the democrats select Biden as their candidate in 2024... they kinda deserve to lose. Not quite, because even in a repeat of Trump vs Biden, trump deserves to lose more than Biden does. I mean, that guy should probably be in jail or at least stripped of the right to run.
But still, Biden isn’t really presidential material anymore. Not long ago, he was. Now? Nah.
The problem, I’m guessing here, is that leaders in the DNC are also very old and when you’re very old you don’t realize that very old is very old
- who's going to step up? Biden should do the right thing and step down_niko
- Stepping down would allow the party to save facenb
- Trump vs Biden.
Tough choice!palimpsest - Biden and Trump need to do a Tour De France style bike comp where they both get lost in the desert and die from exposurePhanLo
- It's been reported that one of the Republicans advantages is that their candidates are younger and therefore more appealing to a younger demographic.instrmntl
- It would be nice to see that with the Democratic party, instead of the current legacy representatives.instrmntl
- Why would they run Biden again? I still can't believe they ran him in the first place, even madder that he won, he's almost dead.PhanLo
- Appearances and age jokes aside, what's so bad about Joe? (that isn't the fault of Manchin and/or Republicans)CyBrainX
- People need to feel that their leader is smart, capable, active and engaged. The age and appearance mattersnb
- It shows that you can be a dithering old man and the country will still run without you I suppose. Just need a talking puppet.PhanLo

- Joe doesn’t come off as a strong leader we can trust. He is old af, struggles with standard old geezer shit, and doesn’t really seem to get the big picture.monospaced
- He’s not bad, but he is as much a puppet as any president it seems. He can read better than the last clown at least.monospaced

University of California law professor Khiara Bridges called out Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) for being transphobic in the middle of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
In her testimony, Bridges referred to “people with a capacity for pregnancy.” Her testimony was not specifically about transgender and non-binary people who can get pregnant – she was there to discuss the legal impacts of the decision on everyone and she spent more time highlighting the impacts on Black people – but she did use trans-inclusive language.
And that set Hawley off.

John Bolton says he ‘helped plan coups d’etat’ in other countries
https://www.theguardian.com/us-n…
His host, Jake Tapper, said: “One doesn’t have to be brilliant to attempt a coup.”
Bolton said: “I disagree with that, as somebody who has helped plan coups d’etat, not here, but you know, other places. It takes a lot of work and that’s not what [Trump] did. It was just stumbling around from one idea to another.
Tapper returned to Bolton’s remark about having helped plan coups.
Bolton said: “I’m not going to get into the specifics.”
Tapper asked: “Successful coups?”
Bolton said: “Well, I wrote about Venezuela in in the book and it turned out not to be successful.
...
In his newsletter, The Racket, Jonathan M Katz, author of the book Gangsters of Capitalism, said: “The United States has indeed sponsored and participated in lots of coups and foreign government overthrows, dating back to the turn of the 20th century [and] Bolton was personally involved in many of the recent efforts – in Nicaragua, Iraq, Haiti and others”.But, Katz added: “Generally, officials do not admit that sort of thing on camera.”
Katz wrote: “Keep in mind that throughout the 2019 crisis, Bolton insisted that the Trump administration’s support for ... Guaidó ... was anything but a coup. He literally stood in front of the White House at the height of the affair and told reporters: “This is clearly not a coup!”
In those remarks, in April 2019, Bolton said: “We recognize Juan Guaidó as the legitimate interim president of Venezuela.
“And just as it’s not a coup when the president of the United States gives an order to the Department of Defense, it’s not a coup for Juan Guaidó to try and take command of the Venezuelan military.
“We want as our principal objective the peaceful transfer of power but I will say again, as [Trump] has said from the outset, and Nicolas Maduro and those supporting him, particularly those who are not Venezuelan, should know, all options are on the table.”
On CNN, Tapper said: “I feel like there’s like this other stuff you’re not telling me.”
Bolton said: “I think I’m sure there is.”

- Romania, Decree 770. Forced natalism created generations of unwanted children. Look up the decretei and resultant crime waves.garbage
- That was an actual communist ploy, btw. So any GOP bootlicker should probably stop tossing out "commie" as an insult for things they don't understand..garbage
- ..because the GOP style of "democracy" has a lot in common with late-stage, panic communism. Right about the point where they tip into fascism.garbage

"We estimate that crime fell roughly 20% between 1997 and 2014 due to legalized abortion. The cumulative impact of legalized abortion on crime is roughly 45%, accounting for a very substantial portion of the roughly 50-55% overall decline from the peak of crime in the early 1990s."
- more crime= more guns, more jails, more hospital visits more cops, it's a win win win for the republicans_niko
- Republicans want people scared and angry. It's easier to manipulate people that way.FNP14
- Look at Romania if you want a case study on how forced natalism has a generational spike on crime.garbage
