I read somewhere today that outside the USA, the vast majority of people would want to see Obama as the next President at astonishing rates close to 90%. The only country where his approval rating was lower was in Russia, and you can guess who they want to see as the next President.
Now I know many Americans couldn't give a toss what the rest of the world thinks, but given recent circumstances, perhaps you fucking well should, or you risk being left out in the cold for generations.
It's somewhat comforting that the opinions expressed here seem to by and large support this theory, but it's the fucken "Joe Six Pack's" that I am worried about. Surely after the crap you guys have endured over the last 8 years, that "Joe Six Pack" would be sick and tired of the bullshit lies, underhand tactics and fear mongering? Or is it now so in-grained into the pysychi of that many people that it is simply irreversible?
If McPalin get elected, god help the USA is all I can say.

- Nearly half of America still seems to think McPalin stands for something different than Bush. Fucking idiots. All of them.joeth

I think its all good that the usa is looking to kick bushy out and replace him with someone like Obama, especially someone like Obama, but having an overly popular prez can be dangerous. They can get away with stuff and be the distraction, while america is all starry eyed and optimistic a bunch of other stuff will go on. Don't fool yourself into think Obama and the next admin is really all that different from the rest of the gov. Bush changed the game forever and he's going to leave the keys for whoever is next including Dabomba's admin.

+1 BusterBoy, recent polls in Australia show you to be quite correct. Whatever the reasoning behind it, Australians don't seem to gel that well with the Republican mindset (at least this time around).
Some of the biggest issues we see externally regarding the US is:
That McCain is an old man with old values
Australia's reasonably pro-choice with regards to abortion
we're nowhere near as devoutly religious as some Republican supporters (we still have our kooks though)
Environmental policies? what policies?
Palin has no global credibility whatsoever. She is a complete joke of a candidate.
Republicans spent the last 2 administrations screwing up anything they touched, or even came close to (I'm generalising here I know, but again this is an outsider's perspective)Obama represents none of the things we currently dislike about the US, and McCain manages to represent most of them quite proudly.
Last of all and probably most importantly for the credibility of the Republican party... its leader is the most god-awful, sub-intelligent redneck creature to ever crawl its way into the Oval Office, and has managed to make a complete tit of himself at almost every opportunity. Were he not to be replaced by Cheney in the event of his death, I would hope for his untimely demise on a daily basis.

"Well, there is one clear winner tonight -- anybody who took the phrase "My Friends" in a drinking game or debate bingo. By our count, 17 "my friends" tonight......and the focus group dial tanks each time.
And does anybody else think there are numerous people in the audience that look mighty uncomfortable in a suit?
McCain goes on the direct attack on Obama regarding Pakistan and the dial dips into negative ratings. It would seem the undecided voters are completely turned off by McCain's scare tactics."

No fireworks, but I think Obama pretty clearly won...moreso than the last debate. They key moment was when they asked if healthcare was a right or a privledge...look for Obama to hit on that starting tomorrow.
- McCain just got completely lost on that one.MrOneHundred

Tuesdays are often busy. But there's only one Tuesday this fall when the future of our democracy will be decided.
On Tuesday, November 4th, your job is to save the world. Don't forget to show up for work.
