If so, what setup do you use?
Also, know of any good house/electro songs out at the moment that us unfortunate to live in Australia probably won't get for a few months?
:)

Yup. 2 of the original Technics 1200's and a Numark Matrix mixer. Been a long time since I bought any vinyl though.

i sold my turntables years ago and havent bought vinyl for years.
i used to dj occasionally - dirty soul&funk/northern soul/breaks and some indie thrown in, basically a mixmash of everything - and had entered a few comps but never done it regularly for cash.
that djing was with vinyl
these days its all mp3s and CDs
ive nothing against this at all. fuck all those vinyl purists loli occasionally get asked to dj for clash magazine, theres nothing better than turngin up to a gig or festival with just a small wallet of cd's rather than a big fuckoff record bag packed with records that you have to log around with you day and night and keep your eye on.
when im doing a gig i'll just get all the tunes i want to take then burn them onto a load of cds. sorted :)

1200's, Numark mixer (cheap). Haven't DJ'd for 6 years. Have just bought some old Hip Hop. Looking to get back into it! Got 3rd place in a Bedroom Bedlam comp for Muzik magazine with a Drum & Bass mix before it was even popular, must have been 95? I remember I had just bought Super Sharp Shooter on white label...
Shooting shots!!!

Motokiss the DJM fits perfectly with the CDJ's. A bit pricey, but the sampling, effects and integration sold me. The sound isn't bad either and I've owned a ton of mixers.

ya im rockin a rane right now for cuttin (im mostly hiphop r&b old rock and roll all mixed up like z-trip) I wanted a mixer with a sampler and effects in it.

and yeah laptop dj's aren't really dj's no matter what they think.
- I fully endorse this comment although it will cause arguments.amongthemasses
- it isnt the equipment, its what you do with your tunes that count!23kon
- serato is great with me as long as you know how to mix.refunktion

i used to think that way amongthemasses
Turntable djs - if you are doing more than JUST djing: like cutting and scratching - then there is a lot of skill involved.
I used to look down on dance music dj's because to me there seemed no skill in that whatsoever - ok, maybe a little, but certainly not as much as trying to DJ with breaks.
But nowadays i wouldnt preach that - each to their own. a good dj is a good dj regardless of what they are playing on.Its not the equipment that matters - its the DJ
Nothing pains me more than having to listen to the same kind of music played by a dj all night - to me these sort of DJs have no takent.A good DJ to me, is someone who is dropping tunes that make you go "no way!", unexpected tunes, tunes completely outwith the genre he/shes been playing up till that point, surprising people and keeping them on their feet and in wonderment.
If someone was doing that with C90 tapes or a Laptop or Turntables id be a happy bunny whatever it was being played on!!!- keep living that auto beat matching dream:)amongthemasses
- but yeah this point is sticky among dj's. I do agree with some points in your post.amongthemasses
- keep wasting your money on vinyl dude23kon
- yawn. it's not a waste. I have 2,500 records you can't get in cd or mp3 format.amongthemasses
- it's all about the music remember?amongthemasses
- you know tunes that make you go no way. I haven't heard this on Beatport:)amongthemasses
- thats cos they just sell dance pish23kon
- my 70's funk and soul collection would disagree with you.amongthemasses
- oh and my 80's hip hop....and I could go on forever.amongthemasses
- i was meaning that BEATPORT didnt have other genres other than dance. not YOUR collection23kon
- and Beatport is honestly useful to me. They have good music from major labels in al genres.amongthemasses
- yeah I know Kon meaning got lost in translation.amongthemasses
- like I said earlier it's a sticky topic.amongthemasses
