i have been djing for ten years and added serato a few years back.... i still use it the same way i use vinyl and always bring both formats to every show. i bought technics and a djm600 later on... its an ok mixer, i enjoy using a rane as well. I don't use any bells or whistles, mixing is a skill i enjoy. i bought serato so i could include my own tracks into a mix with ease. Anyone that wants to call me not a real dj can eat my ten-year-old-hobbying balls.

I use traktor 3, + CDJ1000s. I've got Stanton STR8-100s too, but I only use them for ripping vinyl these days...
I'm playing a load of Australian electro these days... I imagined there was some sort of scene happening there?

I use Traktor, I like it.

i had 12's for my first decks
i bought one saving up and then bought another one the year later. When it comes to turntables it does matter on the deck and the needles.

Folk who go out and get technics as their first decks deserve a slap.
I started djing on (and used for years as a poor student) a set of shot belt driven soundlabs. They used to jump like hell and the pickup was slow cos belt driven. But they taught me to be very careful when cutting or scratching.
I've dj'd at bars and clubs where the decks have been sub-
Technics-standard and you would hear other djs complain cos they struggled with them cos they were used to their perfect setups at home.People always preach that the only way to get the best results is to get the most expensive kit. Photographers will boast how much their camera kit or lenses cost, guitarists will look down on another guitarist if he has a budget setup and will tell you that to be a good guitarist you have to have a Gibson les wank or whatever and Djs will tell you that technics vestax wankbox is the only way to go.
It's a lot of crap!
It doesn't make you a better dj by spending a shit load on kit!
It's the persons skills that count in the end and what they can do with the skills they have.- Soundlab DLPs and Squier guitars FTWkingsteven

amongthemasses, I feel you! That is why I am holding onto my old calssic vinyl, however; I have started recording them into wav files for use with Serato. The club I play at has the serato/Rane mixer, so I dont even have to have the hardware. I just have serato which is free setup on my computer. I wish more cl

The guy that owns the pub a block away from my house owns the most expensive 7" in the world. "Do I love you (indeed i do)" by Frank Wilson £15,000.
Now THATS an investment, with only 2 copies surviving its always going to be worth a lot of money.
I've got a lot of pretty rare soul n funk seven inches but nothing over £100 worth let along £15,000!!!!- and what's the address? :)amongthemasses
- dont think he keeps the 7" there and he doesnt live in the pub lol23kon
- theres vids on youtube with him beign intervewed on tv regarding the single23kon

Nice no more typing in notes. Kon I whole heartedly agree that it is always about the dj and his own ability to work the crowd. Mp3's are just another form of technology that I use. Hell if the song is available in mp3 for 2.00 why not buy it instead of the vinyl? I simply burn it to cd and use my Pioneers. I am what the call a digger though in that I love the sound of vinyl and the rarity of those tunes you can't find anywhere. They have been trying to kill vinyl since cd's came about, but as long as their are rare tunes and the ability to scratch and beat juggle I will always support vinyl, it's warm sound, and the art of dj'ing.

Ihave sold of my prog house and breakbeat vinyl in the past weeks, Nothing touches the quality of 320kbps mp3 files and wav files burnt onto CD's. Plus almost every track I play out has additioal production by myself and this could not be achieved without digitial files and CD burning. Please guys, listen to my mix above, I have 9 others from this year ALL ELCETRO HOUSE if you would like me to post more...
