When you pull it out of your bag at security, run this for them...

just make sure you unpack it in security check. and once onboard, turn off all the wireless stuff

I was gonna say - In my recent travels laptops haven't been allowed on in planes...?
- Where?
I fly w/ mine all the time.
Biz flyers would not be happy if that happened.pylon - I think that was only for a week after the UK liquid bomb scare? But I think that was actually no hand luggage at all?ribit
- Perhaps. During our liquid bomb-scare they banned ALL liquids at security for a while. Now it's just liquids over 50ml.pylon
- Where?

last 5 hour flight i had, i watched 4 episodes of the wire onboard. i forgot there were some crazy scenes of people doing drugs and straight fucking on screen. i look around and see this 10 year old kid a few rows back with the biggest grin on his face.

Don't laptops interfere with landing gear? You better not have that shit on if I"m on a plane with you.

In the UK they want the laptops kept in the bag now at security check. I travel all over the place with laptop always in Sleep, not off, never a problem.

No prob into the US. You'll be asked to remove it from your case and send it through the x-ray, separately from the rest of your stuff. Won't damage the thing; mine's been to the US six or seven times times this year.
Keep an eye on it though, I was in Boston two weeks ago and somebody had theirs lifted from the xray station. Don't know what the outcome was, could have been as simple as one of the officers putting the bin in was in back in the stack before it was emptied. When I was going by they were unstacking all the bins, looking for it...

I think some UK airports still keep the one piece of hand luggage only policy. This applies to laptops, cameras, even ladies' handbags.

cool, thanks guys. just the clarification I was looking for.

For Madagascar, they also advise declaring it at customs, lest they try charging you tax on it upon your return journey... not sure the US would do that though.

Yeah not a big deal. Sometimes they want you to turn it on and sometimes they don't. You've always have to take it out and put it in a tray though

In the States you just have to take it out of your laptop bag, place it in its own bin when scanning through.

as tungsten says, not usually a big deal. Haven't even needed to switch mine on, just pass through the xray - it didn't damage the HD - not sure if it is likely to cause damage I didn't give it too much thought.
Back up your data and leave at home in case you lose or damage your machine though.

I was never asked to switch it on, but it was in Europre. Don't know how it is in US.

it's fine, take it out of your carry-on & just drop it in a separate tray when you go through security.

I've never had any problems and I travel a lot.
- Tungsten0
It's not a big deal. They just make you turn it on when you go through security. Hide your weed somewhere else.

I'm taking a flight to the US tomorrow and wanted to take my laptop with me, not for work just to have, internet etc.
I've never flown with a laptop before, what's the deal with airport security etc. Is it worth it?
