Oh, dear! Looks like I have until mid-February to find another job or become a freelance designer to my current employer. Tough times, I guess.

You'll be better of doing freelance jobs. A lot of clients will have smaller budgets which excludes agencies and creates a bigger courtyard for freelancers.

at least they gave you notice

tell them you want to freelance then find another ft gig

Unfortunately, I can’t leave myself to the whims of the freelance trade. I have a mortgage and 2 kids, so I pretty much need a permanent job.
I’m trying not to freak out, as I have a couple of avenues to explore...

25 people laid off at my company last Thursday. More to come in the new year.

All these layoffs... are most of the companies ACTUALLY feeling a crunch or just paranoid?

Sorry to hear that, bro. Especially knowing your situation with family, mortgage, and all that.
Lots of people in the industry facing tough situations like this now.
I wish I could help you. If anything comes up I'll keep you in mind.

We are feeling the crunch, but it’s less related to the “Economic Crisis” than to my boss’ reluctance to shake his money-maker, and his impending retirement.
- Sorry 100. There's lots of work out there — you'll be fine and don't freak out!!pylon

Their loss. They got rid of a rock star :P

That sucks, MrO. Are there any schools in your area with design programs? If any of them are looking for instructors, it's really a great way to make money, and it's not terribly difficult. You can also do freelance work at the same time.
- Thanks, there are. At least I have a few weeks to look at my options. And it’s not like I’m busy!MrOneHundred

Sorry to hear this partner. I am sure you will find something before the end of the year. You are a fine gentleman and yes, a rock star!
Good luck and keep us posted!
