If you're looking to stay in the Irish Whiskey category, I have two strong suggestions.
On a budget, go with Clontarf.
If you want something amazing, go with Middleton Very Rare.

If you're interested in stepping into a scotch, more flavor but also a good deal more bite, I recommend starting with The Macallan. The 12 year is solid, the 18 year very good, and the 25 year probably the best thing I've ever drank.
Most scotch drinkers end up migrating to the peaty lowlands varieties, but I strongly recommend cutting your teeth on something more approachable.

There are many choices in this life
That we don't get to make
Like who's your pa, where your from
And when the leaves are down it's time to rakeBut you can choose your drinking partner
And mine ain't from Tennessee
Yes, it's straight Kentucky bourbon for me
Oh yes, it's sweet Kentucky bourbon for me

Jack Daniel's or Maker's Mark both good 'daily' Whiskeys. I'm more of a Vodka drinking, but I was seeing a girl for a while who only drank Whiskey, so started keeping it in the house.

if you'regoing to buy a Jameson (and can't afford a middleton) buy a 12 year old.
I drink it with soda water and it's like having a sex farm in your mouth

- ^ No disrespect or nothing,
but I never understood how people can go for something matured 12 years then simply obliterate and dilute that taste with soda, water or icePeter - ...obliterate and dilute that taste with soda, water or icePeter
- true dat, in the case of ice or tap water, mineral water gives it a bit of room tbh to savour all the flavorskingsteven
- chlorine + any whiskey gives a horrible bitter tastekingsteven

To all suggesting Maker's, JD's, and other bourbons... I seriously doubt an Irish Whiskey fan is going to enjoy a switch to bourbon. Whiskey is not created equal.

I love Yamazaki 18 year. yum. Tastes like barbecue.
- I haven't tried any of the Japanese whiskeys, but I've been meaning to...ArtOrDie
