Anyone have any advice for choosing a CMS platform to learn? Looking for something that is relatively easy, but a solid app. Expression Engine? Joomla? etc????
Thanks!

I use EE. It works really well.

I'm all over wordpress these days, the open source community behind it is sick with it.

WP is good for blogs.
I would explore EE for non-blog websites.
If you are building a blog site - dont. There are too many blogs already and no one wants another one.

wordpress mu is good for anything. It is a robust back end with total control using css.

Expression Engine is nice.

"WP is good for blogs"
fuck that, it depends on the content you need to present. WP works amazing for a lot of different applications.
- exactly, it's all designed using stylesheets.DrBombay
- prove it. i want to see a site that uses it and doesnt contain a blog.heavyt

Whilst we're here - do any of you lot use the 'Personal' license in Expression Engine if you're just doing a wee commercial site?
Or is that just cheap and wrong?
- i'd like to know this aswell, can they check? Making a wee crafty gift website that is hardly full on commercialpeterorpete

someone prove me wrong, but when you look at the WP admin tool you see it is focused around "Posts". with other options including "blog surfer" and "blog yada yada".
I know that you can add pages, which arent blog really, but the dashboard is centered around the blogging idea and therefore i think it is a blog-based CMS.Someone please tell me why i am crazy or show me a site that doesnt have a blog that is built on WP.

go into the WP code and change "posts" to whatever word you like. fact is the plugin and widget community make more free, useful things for this than many other cms' That I have come across. I feel that this is going to be around for a very very longtime also. Last year everyone was joomla joomla joomla, now no one gives a shit about it. See what I mean?

this is just my opinion, but it does basically everything I am asked to furnish for clients, at work etc.

@heavyt - my site is definitely not a blog, i simply use POSTS as a database element to contain my label's releases, artists, news items, etc. Then just pull out the appropriate content using special statements on the 'pages' aspect. Its super easy, keeps things VERY organized and cross references SO MUCH BETTER (album->artist->news item about either).

I'm quite interested in expression engine. Does anyone know of a good tutorial that walks you through the full creation of a site? There are some basics on their site but it doesn't go very in depth nor touches on the subject of modules...
- It doesn't even have to be the full creation but a larger chunk of tutorials would be handykalkal

i'm gonna throw in Textpattern as an option for non-bloggy sites and bloggy ones alike ..... as powerful as Expression Engine, but out of the box minimally what you need only
