I've been playing a few games on my iMac (running Windows) and it's been ok. With only a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro you can't get the crazy high end but it does the trick. I would say that I'm an occasional binge gamer.
I'd definitely want a good graphic card in my next purchase.

I think there is a lot of value in the product that Apple puts together when you consider the OS.
Without the OS I don't see the extra value. Thoughts?
- u would have to elaborate, i always felt that mac os felt bit retarded - in this category MS winspr2
- you're such an idiot, pr2monospaced

- Only the low-end Mac Books have removed firewire. MBP, iMac and Mac Pro still have them.Nathan_Adams

- and Firewire 800 is backwards compatible with 400. Just need a plug adaptor ;)Nathan_Adams
- ok. so no hate. lol.akrok

The question if flawed, pick your OS software, then that's your answer. Technically speaking, a apple computer is a PC now that's it's intel based.
If you want OSX but don't want to pay for it from apple, to spice things up buy your own parts and go for it. You can hack Leopard into installing onto any computer but it's a lot of work.
http://www.macworld.com/article/…And there's a Psystar PC, that Apple is in a lawsuit with but hey that's not stopping them from doing what they do. http://www.psystar.com/

I've had a MacPro for 2 years now. Best machine I've ever owned.
Apple is worth every penny when it comes to comfort, design and reliability. You pay more but its worth it.- that's a 1984 argument...pr2
- stfu pr2, you obviously know very little about Macs and OS X.monospaced
- monospaced seems like an Apple fanboy, no offense.Jaline
- PCs are not as bad as you make it seem.Jaline

branding is a powerful thing. It turns a positive experience into untouchable magic, especially when you don't get a second computer to compare it to.

Pretty good price considering what you get.

monospaced, bro, what, are u paid by apple to love their products?
the macs i work on always have some issues. Even my friends high end machine locks up when in FCP he opens "save as" window and then goes out of the app to look something up... It's the very machine that can edit full HD video with lighting speed (and i would love to have a machine with that speed), That said though i see Macs encountering more small issues then the PCs i work with. So all those "more reliable, better OS and what-nots..." are laughable. In 21st century both OSs work more or less in similar manner and it's the user's experience or inexperience that make for better or worse OS.

by the way, you cant come and say, well i can build my own. well do that then. cause, if you dont have time...most people dont. to build there own. and hunt for best price on the parts.
so if you want one complete. you buy one build allready.
no matter what we things are the best choice. its really up to you.
its just a tool. both pc and mac, both can do the same crap.now, whats your credit card numbers and social. lol.
- most people dont have a spare few hours?kalkal
- fuckers dont even have to do answer your thank you note, why would they have time for this. lol.akrok
- wut?kalkal
- hah. no for real. i dont think most people want to build there own. they want it to work, from scratch.akrok
- that why HP and DELL are big.akrok
- Yes but if you know what you're doing (and it isn't very hard to do) you can easily build a better pc for the same pricekalkal

If:
1) you don't care about a pretty interface
2) You know which services needs to be shut after installing windows
3) You know how to deal with viruses
4) You want to learn the basics of networking understanding how zonealarm works
5) You like gaming to its best visual experience and do occasional 3d
6) for the same price want to get bit more powerful hardware. Then, go PC otherwise, stay apple.
And if you are after performance, reset and reinstall the system every year.

getting a PC that is spec'd identically to the mac may be almost equally expensive due to xeon markup, small expensive range of compatible mobos and expensive registered ram... but you're not building a web server (which for some reason the MacPro is built like). A /faster/ desktop PC can be had for probably 1/2 the price by selecting fast 'consumer' oriented hardware like i7 chips, unregistered ram, etc.
so it's not so much that the MacPro is expensive, it's actually well priced. It's just that the hardware is overbuilt for a lot of users (4k/6k motiongraphics/3d work aside). If Apple had single chip i7 desktop for $1,000 they would hit the sweet spot for most designers, I'd say.
- well, yes. i which is was cheaper. that would had been nice.akrok

If you have the money get a Mac otherwise build a Hackintosh.
- Rodimus790
Do some research and build your own.. The time invested is well worth the bundle saved.. Wait a little while for i7 chips to drop in price.. Build the best machine you can, then put whatever OS you please on it. With a little tinkering and some registry edits, Vista isn't half bad, but it's garbage on default settings. Vista x64 has been a lot more stable for me at home than OSX at work, but that's simply because I built my machine, customized the hell out of the settings, and didn't put any intrusive software like (the aforementioned)Norton on my machine (Virii do less damage than Norton software). Not a single crash in almost 4 years. Never buy a big manufacturer PC.
That being said, different Linux builds are getting better by the day. You can always setup a couple partitions and test out multiple OS's.. Each have their positives.

Mac User have never had to deal with any of this bullshit!
Downadup virus exposes millions of PCs to hijack
A new sleeper virus that could allow hackers to steal financial and personal information has now spread to more than eight million computers in what industry analysts say is one of the most serious infections they have ever seen.
