anyone here use openframeworks http://www.openframeworks.cc/ ? its like processing http://www.processing.org/ but is based on c++ and doesn't have an ide. some of the work that's been created with it is pretty amazing.

rson, how well did you pick it up? were you in dt at parsons?

How do you get the library?
- you can download it here: http://www.openframe…armsbottomer

Yep at parsons. At the time I sucked at C++ and OFW was only like a year or two old. So there was not much documentation (besides Zach). But if you are a solid C++ person it should be very easy to pick up.

^ it's true, you can easily just use xcode, but for those who are unfamiliar with compiling code on their own it can be intimidating (which is why i mentioned it doesn't have a dedicated ide like processing, that abstracts the gritty work).
i don't think that my post implied dropping whatever you're learning now and learning something new. if a specific framework/language really interests me, i pursue it rather than limit myself to what i'm currently working on. that doesn't mean that i know tidbits of different languages without ever learning and understanding them. i do where you're coming from though.

Cheers for getting what I said, and sorry for saying it like a dick. Had just found out that 2 school friends died in a car crash last night via Facebook and was pretty pissed on top of a load of other stress.
Anyway, it looks a pretty cool framework and admitted I do the same chop and change thing a little more than I'd like, I suppose it also keeps you on your toes. However it can be a bad move to learn a new programming language with the intention of using a certain framework as you can gear your learning towards learning certain aspects of the language, such leaving you at a loss later down the line when you discover you've not spent enough time understanding some key part of the language and instead use rather poor practices which means you can easily loose that initial burst of enthusiasm when you have to go back and learn some elementary shit. Trust; not understanding quaternions indirectly caused me to get dumped by a girl and the athletics team when I was 15 (and I only recently completely understood them).
- this is a great statement!ptouch718
- that sounds like solid advice, and nicely put too. no worries about before, and sorry for your loss.armsbottomer
