If you like shopping, Carnaby Street is pretty cool. It's right next to Oxford Street tube station.

wow, I wish I had never visited london before. I've lived here my whole life and it would be great to see it as an outsider.
I'll let others fill you in on all the stuff to see.
Design wise, check out the design museum esp. if the designs of the year 2009 is still on there.Lots of the museums are free so check them out, if you go to south kensington you can see the V&A museum, science museum and natural history museum all in clos proximity to eachother.
there are tons of little galleries around old st, and brick lane. In fact if you head over to brick lane in june all of the student design shows will be on so there'll be tons of design stuff about

Go to Brick Lane on Sunday around midday - great markets, good atmosphere. Have a pint at the Vibe or 93 Feet East, wander down Fornier Street, go to Spitalfields Market.

your best bet is to poke around here since there's about a couple million things going on at any give time.

I'm also visiting London (and Paris) in mid June. Very excited!

You must must must must go to Sir John Soane's museum - it's free and totally fantastic. It's full of all kinds of architectural ephemera that Soane (architect of the Bank of England and much else) collected over his life, including a dead monk in the basement, and the complete cycle of Hogarth's Rake's Progress in a bizarre room with walls that turn inside out. It sounds mad and it is. And it's free. But get there early.

is tDR still dead then? What's the story there?

A train to Manchester only takes 2 hours 8 minutes, I'd do that.
