I am moving to nyc from san francisco in 3 weeks for work. ive only been there a few times, so im not sure where to live. im looking for a hip area, but not too cool. (im too cool for 'too cool'..) something like the dogpatch in sf would be ideal. (for those of you who know sf) any pointers?

there must be a million SF threads by now - I swear more than any other city on this forum. I had fun in North Beach though

Post your work and I will expertly judge your east coast stereotype.

greenpoint is similar to dogpatch, alto it's a little toxic.

what's your budget?
Because if you can afford to, don't live in Brooklyn. Every year the hipster factor doubles.

Stay in Queens.

Greenpoint is fine if you aren't planning on spending a lot of time in Manhattan and if you're willing to deal with the G train.....

DO NOT MOVE TO GREENPOINT!!!!
the trains there suck!!!! but meh... seems all the tourists who move to nyc seem to love it!!! as a pure new yorker i say no to greenpoint...
move to williamsburg.. or go deep in brooklyn...i suggest you find an apt thru a broker...
good luck!!

Park Slope. Or try the other side of the city (Hoboken, NJ).
