do you think you'll miss it, or be ready to leave?

Shanghai has good things to offer, some of chinese habits tend to upset me, the way they drive, the wey they're picking their nose, the way they don't respect anyone while waiting in line, the way chinese government put a black screen on my tv when US or French news tell about tiananmen or ouighours. I enjoy being here overall. We have managed to travel around east Asia...Bali Japan, Honk kong...but I am ready to discover a new country for another 2 year period

I really likes it there. Lots of great food, and if you look carefully, there are some really nice things to see there as well, instead of the western chanel/ prada bullshit. Also i made a habit of walking through backalleys a lot, which is like stepping into a completely different world. Same goes for small markets. And a lot of other interesting stuff is only a trainride away, if the buildings/ construction gets too much....

take the bullet train from Shanghai to Suzhou will take only 37 minutes and the ticket is just CNY22 (less than 2quids), you can see the old style of china, also the musuem of suzhou is worth visit too, it's done by mr. i.m.pei

are you living in Shanghai Amby?

i was there a few years ago. I wouldn't go back any time soon.
The only thing that makes it acceptable is the fact that they have Western area, that caters to civilized folks. Of course, prices are teh same as any otehr decent city in the world. Most of the city is dirt, poor, construction, etc.
not a big fan.
- "civilized folks...." :/pango
- that sounded bad - i just mean people that have a high-standard of livingheavyt
- so, more of the literal definition, not the colloquial definition.heavyt
- i don't agree dude.. lame areas aren't that mush inside.. its totally westernized.. u should pay a visit in recent :)Amby
- yeah, i was there in 2004, maybe it is better now.heavyt
- i think as an American, i appreciate good teeth and personal space. neither seems to be important in CHheavyt
- at least, not from what i saw.heavyt
- :) Shanghai is so Gen-Z now! You are talking of some really old era!Amby
- man, i must have been in the bad part of town :/heavyt
- not really ive had people walk right into me like im not there... only in China.epill_
- its like there can be endless space around them but the need to walk into u is a must.epill_
- a foreigner is definitely bumped on here.. haha

ps: what about people spitting, gurgling, walking while rubbing their bellies and those unstoppable STARES? :DAmby
