Oh that is a shame, gramme. Old gun just doesn't have the same ring.
- also, just curious, what's the point in promoting yourself in a room full of hungry designers?_salisae_
- Good question. I get the occasional query from an agency about helping with their project overflow.gramme
- Emphasis on "occasionally," as in two or three queries. No actual work yet.gramme
- So maybe it's not worth the hassle after all.gramme

Oh, disclaimer: I'm not trying to claim anything about my own work with the above statement. I just think that it's an objective worth striving for. It's something I myself would like to improve on.

Maybe if we can mutually agree on some criteria we can create our own competition together. It's a tall order, defining and agreeing on a list of hurdles that one's work must clear in order to "win" but it's fine for us to try at this—not quite get the rules right at first—and refine as we go. I'll start by proposing this old rule:
1. The medium or means of production should align with the function and aesthetics of the finished product. This applies equally to books, prints, websites, software, sculpture, etc. Now there's a lot of latitude there; plenty of room for argument. But the argument itself should be argued and answered by the piece, shouldn't it?

skt designed my website and i never made it into young guns either...

I tried to give skt credit for my website but he didn't want it

haha @ skt. Seriously though, don't sell yourself short. You steered me away from a couple bad ideas re: my website, and offered some great design input, for which I remain grateful. I hope we have the chance to work together again.
Nostradamus, that is indeed very brave of you to say behind a pseudonym. I'd be very keen to hear who you know who's worked with me, and how in particular they found me to be an asshole. I ask because until I lost my job in February, I got along very well with all of my coworkers, clients, and vendors. I never yelled at anyone, stiffed anyone, nor did I ever engage in a power play. Sure I have my share of shortcomings, as partially evidence in this thread. I fully realize it wasn't a smart idea for me to publicly announce my frustrations with my former employer. But if you go back and read that thread, I didn't say anything disparaging about them; I was actually complimentary. My issue was that I simply wasn't making enough money there, and that there was very little room for growth. Nothing against them there, it's just the smaller studio model which works fine for them.
That thread was really standard boilerplate stuff one sees around here, where people get the itch and decide to start looking for a new gig. But as many know, I was one of the rare ones who got snooped, and then preemptively axed. There was no litany of problem which led up to my demise. I was doing good work, on brief and on time. Clients were happy. Things were good between me and the boss. Then I opened my fat mouth on QBN and all the good will abruptly ceased.
In short, I call bullshit. You simply don't like me (I suppose this goes at least as far back to our many discussions in various religious threads) and are reaching for baseless grounds to sling mud at me.

Gramme is okay by me. He just had a momentary lapse of judgement here and has acknowledged it. Anyone who comes on here under the cloak of anonymity to sling mud LONG after the discussion has been wound up obviously has some emotional issues that need attention.
So I wish you well Nostradamus. I hope you get over yourself soon.

gramme has had a bad attitude for years. He's an asshole. Just ask anyone that has worked with him.
His getting fired should have been a wakeup call that he needed an attitude adjustment. (lol like that was really going to happen) His bitching on QBN was probably the straw that broke his employer's back, they finally had enough of his prima donna antics and felled the ax.
- Very brave of you to say that from behind a pseudonym.detritus
