Also, for surfing, Short Sands beach is a popular surf beach. I wrote about it in a note above. Camping there too, near the ocean. It's between Cannon Beach and Manzanita on the northern Oregon coast.

Waterfront, downtown Portland. Hit up Saturday Market. Fun stuff.

the wildlife will get you and give you in sacrifice to Mother Nature. They have the right to do so.
Just bring a knife.

Thanks for the infos.
Skima, totally understand and it's wise of you to give a warning. I'm not the kind to run out into the wilderness unprepared and I grew up in "bear country". Unfortunately I don't think we'll even have enough time to get into anything epic like these hikes.

fyi
You need to be well prepared to do hikes like Black Tusk and Joffre....
Water pumps, light gear, good shoes and there are bears around.
Not trying to scare you - just don't want to send someone out there who isn't ready for it.

I'm curious - what's the cost of campings in the US? Generally speaking, of course.

If you can get a spot, Alice Lake in Squamish (1hr from Vancouver toward Whistler) is a nice campground with a swimmable lake. Typically full-up on weekends, better luck if you go mid week.
There's a capfire ban going on right now, so you better have a stove if you want to cook anything.

+ careful its a long weekend in BC which means campgrounds will be overbooked and a nightmare finding vacancies.
